Rekha Ending Explained
We start by seeing a man drive coconuts to a house where a woman is just waking up after a good night’s sleep. As her mother reveals, Rekha doesn’t help around much when it comes to household chores and instead focuses on completing her studies so she can get a job and settle in the city. However, that hasn’t stopped her from looking for love and companionship where she has been living.
Like a typical lovestruck person, she goes through the motions of deep affection, rejection, annoyance and coyness all in quick succession. Her boyfriend Achu/Arjun is a shopworker and Rekha generally goes to this store to buy groceries from him. This time when she goes, he hands her some free chakli and tea powder. However, he has been getting increasingly desperate for some physical affection of any kind. When she had video called him, he was ready to get himself off just by staring at her through the mobile phone screen.
That night though, he becomes antsy and decides to go down to her house. She is sitting in her room, trying to sleep but gets afraid when she sees that he has come home. She knows that her father was asleep outside, so he claimed to have tiptoed around him to come in. The both of them go up to her room and share a chakli, and Arjun starts getting comfortable by moving his hands closer to her and also establishing some physical intimacy. Throughout all of this, Rekha seems afraid and unwilling but it is pinned on the fact that someone might come in.

He decides to push her boundaries and she has no option but to relent under his advances. He takes her to bed and engages in sexual intercourse which we later find out that she mostly didn’t pay attention to. At this point, Arjun has already established himself as a villain. But things start to get even more shifty when he admits that he killed her dog in order to come meet her whenever he wanted. This takes her aback and she doesn’t know how to respond. He kisses her forehead in reassurance and apology.
The next morning, she wakes up to her mother screaming at the top of her lungs that her husband has died. Rekha comes down to take a look and things have gotten out of hand. People from the neighbourhood have come around to ask what they would be doing next and if anyone would be filing a postmortem report. Rekha has an idea of what happened but needs to confirm her suspicions. She consistently calls Arjun only to hit a wall with the automated message.
Unable to take it any longer, she goes around asking for his location and phone number. People don’t share it with her and tell her very little about where he is and what he has been doing. She finds out from someone that he has gone to Ernakulam and decides to stay at a friend’s place there. While she was looking for Arjun, she also found that his uncle Kannan works in the same area. When she goes to speak to him about her ex-boyfriend, he also turns out to be a creep interested in sex.

At this point, she loses it with these disgusting men and decides to thrash him with a pot lying beside her. He starts bleeding profusely and it is at this time that Arjun shows up at Kannan’s place. The two have a conversation and he reassures her that he had nothing to do with her father’s death. The next morning, Rekha finds out that another woman named Savitha died by suicide in the village. What is suspicious is that Arjun was having an affair with her.
She becomes really annoyed and decides to confront him once more. This time, he tells her that he had nothing to do with the suicide and he doesn’t know anything about her father’s death. She pleads him to let her know because she hasn’t been able to sleep. He maintains that since she doesn’t have a postmortem report, nothing can be proven. Taking this as a confession, she tries to attack him but he immediately takes over.
After a couple of minutes of intense choking and knife fights, Rekha gains an upper hand. She places the knife in his pants and hugs him one last time before driving the knife into his body. We see her and Arjun lying on the ground almost dead but still talking. She asks if he had had sex with her after he killed her father or before. It is revealed in a flashback that he choked her father to death and sat there until his phone dinged from her message.

The police officers come to her house in the village and ask her about Arjun. Rekha explains that while she was dating the man, she had no idea about his whereabouts. She went to Ernakulam to talk to him about his affair but came back before anything like this could happen. Buying her story even with all the cuts and bruises on her, the police leave in peace.
