Qorin Ending Explained: What Happens to Zahra and Her Classmates? Are They Able to Escape the Jinn?

Qorin is an Indonesian horror film directed by Ginanti Rona, written by Rona and Lele Laila, and stars Zulfa Maharani, Omar Daniel, Aghniny Haque, Dea Annisa, Naimma Aljufri, Putri Ayudya and Cindy Nirmala, alongside other cast members. The movie has a runtime of 109 minutes.

Qorin Story Recap

Qorin follows an Islamic orthodox girls-only boarding school in a remote area wherein the principal, Ustad Jaelani, has all the power. Although the school has issues with the supernatural, things take a turn for the worse when Jaelani makes the final-year students go through a Qorin summoning ritual that ends up bringing something more than jinns to the forefront.

Qorin Ending Explained

The story follows Zahra and her classmates, who seem to be uncomfortable around the principal, Ustad Jaelani. Although we are made to believe that he’s a strict teacher, things quickly take a turn when we learn that he has been sexually assaulting several students in the school. Zahra has a deep fear of Jaelani, who lied to her to make her submit.

Moreover, Jaelani has directed that the senior class all go through with a jinn doppelganger-summoning test in their finals, the scores of which would determine whether they pass or not. However, Zahra and Yolanda witness Jaelani doing the same ritual with other women after the latter starts to suspect that the principal’s intentions are not good. They are able to catch the fishy incident on camera and even tell another teacher, Ummi Hana, about it, but she doesn’t believe them.

Thus, the students are forced to go through with the ritual, which results in them summoning their evil doppelgangers, who are out to murder them. On top of this, Zahra learns about Jaelani misdeeds from one of her roommates, who has also been assaulted in the past. However, before they can take action or reach out to Kiai Mustofa, the doppelgangers start to attack everyone. Ummi Hana also finally realises that there are much bigger things at play in the school and comes to the aid of the students.

In a fight between good and evil, Ummi Hana, Zahra, Yolanda and the other students try to flee the school but are stopped by Ustad Jaelani and his doppelganger. In a moment of bravery and in a bid to stop the evil, Ummi Hana starts to pray, and with the help of Kiai Mustofa’s spirit (who, it turns out, was murdered by Jaelani), they are able to get rid of Jaelani’s evil doppelganger. Unfortunately, the real Jaelani, now possessed, murders Ummi Hana.

The students, meanwhile, trying to flee, are stopped by Jaelani, and Ummi Yana starts to fight her husband off. She is unsuccessful but is able to harm him. Yolanda and Zahra try to fight him as well, which results in Yolanda being stabbed and Zahra successfully pushing him over a bridge into the water below.

qorin review

Why did Ustad Jaelani make the girls perform the ritual? Jaelani always felt inferior in front of his father-in-law Kiai Mustofa, and his inferiority complex pushed him towards the dark arts in order to gain more power. Thus, when he became the principal of the school, the power got to his head, and he started to see the students as inferior and those he could control. With the girls in their final year getting out of the school, Jaelani felt his control over the girls stripping from him.

Thus, he made all the girls perform the ritual in order to control their doppelgangers, who would, in turn, control them. It also helped him in sexually assaulting the girls since once possessed, Jaelani could control them at will.

Plus, the fact that he was an awful person all around couldn’t have helped anyone.

Qorin is streaming on Netflix.
