Pretty Little Liars Original Sin (Ep 4 & 5): Interesting & Confusing

Pretty Little Liars Original Sin Episode 4 is titled ‘The (Fe)male Gaze’ and is directed by Lisa Soper and written by Eleanor Jean & Jenina Kibuka. The fifth episode is called ‘The Night He Came Home’ and is also directed by Soper but, written by Katie Avery & Alexis Scheer.

Like a ritual, both the episodes start with a flashback from 1999 where we see Angela Waters and how she was treated by the mothers of the Liars. They were not kind and looks like each of them was equally involved in throwing Angela under the bus. Fast forward, we move to the present day where all the girls are dealing with their own secrets.

Imogen is struggling to move on from her mother’s death and trying to find the connection between Angela Waters and the mothers. However, her steps are futile. Faran’s ballet life is easier but, the strange presence of Kelly keeps her on her toes and she comes up with a shocking but, believable theory about Kelly and Karan. As for Noa, who has finally revealed her big secret in the last episode, things start to take some threatening turn.

All of these plot developments are interesting with the presence of A always looming over the girls. However, it is Tabby and Mouse’s secrets which keep us confused but hooked in these two episodes. Flashbacks about a bonfire party keep haunting Tabby, who is out there looking for something. Meanwhile, Mouse’s virtual life seems to be darker than what gives away. In some twisted turn of events, we get two know how the two girls are in some deep tangle that they might not be able to get out from ever.

Pretty Little Liars Original Sin (Ep 4 & 5): Final Thoughts

Where is Pretty Little Liars Original Sin heading? Well, we would sure like to jump to the next few episodes as quickly as possible! The reboot is exploring some secrets and dark lies that are far more impactful and scary than the one we witnessed in the original. As jarring as the events faced by the original Liars were, it was never truly horrifying enough to land them dead.

As for the reboot, we are going to have to keep up with the body count for this ‘A’ is more than a scary replica from the Halloween franchise it seems. What the girls and their mothers are hiding might run deeper than what we are expecting it to be, especially with Mouse’s storyline.

Nevertheless, it does seem like Pretty Little Liars Original Sin is opening more boxes than it can account for. We are surely not getting closer to solving the mystery at hand but, getting pulled deeper into it. It could very well be a strategy to engage the audience in a way that season two is inevitable. However, in case, season two is not on its way already, there are some big landings Original Sin needs to make as the final episodes roll by.

You can watch the Pretty Little Liars Original Sin Episode 4 and Episode 5 now on HBO Max.
