Pensati Sexy is Amazon’s latest rom-com that is extremely cliched and equally refreshing in an uncomfortably annoying watch that showcases being comfortable in your own flesh and finding your self-esteem. Our protagonist is Maddalena, a 30-something-year-old woman, who has very little prospects in all parts of her life because she doesn’t have any self-respect and thus isn’t able to pull much off in her life. However, when a guardian angel, in the form of adult star Valentina Nappi, comes into her life she finds the push to rediscover herself and her sexiness.

This movie is just so weird but it’s the weirdness that makes it quite funny. Maddalena is a relatable character, albeit a bit over-the-top, and she’s loveable enough to make you root for her to get some shred of self-respect that she so clearly lacks. Her character has an arc that we desire and she has some good and bad moments that make her a whole person instead of a cliche. Okay, I would be lying if I said that she isn’t a little bit of a cliche, but I guess we all have our moments so there’s that.
Either way, it’s Valentina Nappi who adds a zing and pep to the storyline which otherwise would’ve been a bit too annoying and full of rants. Nappi’s character is extremely out there and doesn’t stop herself from saying what everyone is thinking. But even then, she is really likeable because she keeps it real and stands as a really fun balance to Maddalena’s annoying character. Most of the characters are quite black and white and there’s not much to think about here in that sense either.
The movie is a simple and fun time that doesn’t try to be anything more complex than that. The storyline is cliched and expected and, although the guardian angel is a feisty and fun time for the movie, isn’t something new that movies haven’t seen before. Viewers who have seen enough rom-coms in their lives will be able to decipher exactly what is going to happen in the next scene almost exactly. Honestly, there’s not much to think about in Pensati Sexy, but it imparts important lessons about loving yourself for who you are and not trying to find validation from others.

I guess it’s sweet and relatable in that respect and does take its time to showcase the different phases of coming to terms with your own self. Again, it’s cliched, but the thought is still relevant. I also liked Maddalena’s relationship with Nappi, who is my favourite part of the movie. Their friendship is really nice to watch, although, well, she is a figment of Maddalena’s imagination at the end of the day. Breaking down Maddalena’s relationship with her family is also a cathartic experience to watch and is done with emotion and heart.
Diana Del Bufalo and Valentina Nappi make for a delightful duo in this cliched rom-com and are delightful to watch in every scene. The former is a sweet character who has much to learn about herself and plays every moment with a lot of heart. The latter is fierce and unrelenting and is delightful to watch. The ending scene is quite funny and ties everything together quite beautifully. Some odd racy moments peppered in the movie feel unnecessary and forced and turn out to be nothing but a ploy to keep audiences engaged. Also, NSFW warning with this one!
Pensati Sexy Review: Final Thoughts

This racy movie about accepting oneself is a tried and tested story that we have seen many times before. Audiences will be able to figure out where the movie is going the moment it starts and the movie doesn’t try to prove us wrong in any way either. However, it does have its heartwarming and funny moments of self-discovery that are sweet and effective and although the romance aspect doesn’t bring about much, it’s fine for a one-time and forgettable watch.
Pensati Sexy is streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
