Reigen and Mob are back with an ultra-spectacular third season opener, as Mob Psycho 100 Season 3 Episode 1 gears towards the show’s eventual finale. Let’s see how this went in this review!
Mob Psycho 100 Season 3 Episode 1 Overview

The worldwide phenomenon and overnight success of Mob Psycho 100 are unique in a way that will probably never be seen in this medium again. The series is back with its third instalment being Mob Psycho 100 Season 3, or just Mob Psycho Season 3. The series is based upon a manga written by One Punch Man author and artist ONE.
This season is being directed by the dynamic duo of Yuzuru Tachikawa and Hasui Takahira, who have been behind shows like Death Parade and Bleach for Tachikawa and My Hero Academia and SK8 the Infinite for Takahira. The series is once again being produced by Studio Bones, the studio behind several classics in anime history, such as Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood and Bungou Stray Dogs.

Mob Psycho 100 Season 3 Episode 1 Review- Regret

If Mob Psycho 100 being back and just as good as it used to be isn’t an indication that the world is healing after the disaster that has been every year since 2020, I don’t know what is. That this weird little show got popular in the first place was already a miracle. The show’s retaining and growing of that popularity through the sheer quality of narration, animation, and soundtrack was something even beyond that. I’ll gladly admit that I wasn’t as high on Season 2 as everybody else, but nobody can deny its quality. Season 3 has started off very similarly, as we take a look back upon the chaos that Mob’s climactic battle with Claw caused.

Well, kinda, While the greater effects of that onto the world will take a little time to reflect upon the narrative, this episode served as a great little breather that reintroduced the characters, their personalities, motivations, and their goals for this season. The monster-of-the-week format works very well for this show, and the monsters introduced this week were especially potent in making you hate your entire existence. Despite having one of the most outlandish concepts for a show in all anime, Mob Psycho 100 can be extremely relevant and relatable when it tries, and this was one of those times.

Through a weirdo wanting to exorcize himself, the show made us ponder the worthlessness of existence and how important each of our choices is in the grand scheme of things. Just one wrong choice can lead us to a path we find ourselves unable to ever come back from and regret our existence forever. That might not be true in the strictest sense, as it is always possible to fix your life, especially if you have a lot of it remaining. This doesn’t make the existential regret any better, and the manner in which this episode conveyed this feeling in a comedic yet poignant manner made you remember what you loved about this show.

Reigen will only be hereafter referred to as “#2 Tumblr Sexyman Reigen” in this review series, and I will not be accepting any questions at this time. He was phenomenal in this episode, as he was back at his slimy, over-the-top business shenanigans while still somehow being the kindest and most mature character in the show. He is just the best (Well, second best, after Sans) and half the reason this show is so good. His having a decent arc this season will do wonders in elevating its quality.

Serizawa is a surprisingly good addition to the show so far, and he and Mob make for great responders to #2 Tumblr Sexyman Reigen’s shenanigans. The overall plotline of this season has started to be slowly sculpted already, and the Psycho Helmet cult, alongside Dimple, is set to play huge roles this season. Mob’s usual uncertainty is going to make for a bad combination, with him having to choose a career and where to go after middle school. Well, at least he has his boss and mentor to guide him through it or keep him on as an assistant forever or both.
Verdict
Mob Psycho 100 Season 3 Episode 1 was a great start to the series and did very well in setting up the tone for the entire season. Welcome back, Mob!
