Jim Jefferies: High n’ Dry is the latest stand-up Netflix Comedy Special which premiered on February 14, 2023. Directed by Scott Zabielski, Jefferies writes the script of the show. Previously the comedian starred in several Netflix shows: Freedumb in 2016, This Is Me Now in 2018 and Intolerant in 2020.
He has starred in countless television series, among which Legit in 2013 on FX and The Jim Jefferies Show in 2017 on Comedy Central are his most renowned work. The celebrity has also appeared in many stand-ups, and the recent release is his fourth Netflix Special. The show has a total runtime of approximately 68 minutes.
The official Netflix description of the show reads:
No topic is off limits for Jim Jefferies as he muses on stoned koalas, his dad’s vasectomy confusion and choosing between his hair and his sex drive.
-Jim Jefferies: High n’ Dry Contains Some Spoilers-
In 2023, you would think that the world has become a better place and celebrities understand their power of influence, which should restrict them from making insensitive statements, but you would be wrong! Jim Jefferies has been known for his meticulous misogynistic jokes sprinkled with homophobic and transphobic one-liners.
He starts the show by bringing up young activist Greta Thunberg and talks about how women, in particular, become uncomfortable if he jokes about the sixteen-year-old. But he reminds everyone that Greta is 19 now, so he can talk about her and make thoughtless sexual jokes if he wishes to.
It would be impossible for any middle-aged comedian not to joke about Jada Pinkett and demean her in the process. He goes on a self-deprecating segment and shares his “struggles” with baldness. Moreover, he expresses how easy it is for women to become bald compared to men, which was the only time he managed to be funny, and the jokes actually hit the mark.
Soon after, he yet again starts an extremely long segment explicitly explaining the surgical process that transpeople go through. The script felt less like a joke and more like an ignorant conversation that a couple of privileged men have during a dinner party. It was surprising to witness the audience roaring at his jokes uncontrollably as I struggled to find anything to laugh about.
Furthermore, he gives a very detailed description of his sex life, leaving absolutely nothing to the imagination. At that point, one cannot help but feel bad for the wife and wonder if she consented to it. The painful experience ended with him making another joke about Greta, which was more insensitive than the first one.

The most intriguing part about the show is that the comedian is not an unaware man; he is, in fact, too aware of the current social situations and purposely makes bigoted jokes to appeal to a particular section of the audience who enjoys it. Evidently, he is a brilliant storyteller who is unafraid of the consequences, but mocking the marginalised and the minority is not the correct approach.
Jim Jefferies: High n’ Dry Review: Final Thoughts
The show is not worth the watch. The script is filled with insensitive jokes which might only trigger people rather than make them laugh. Setting aside the problematic segments, the script lacks substance, and the stories are repeated. If you are one of those people who enjoy senseless jokes, then it might definitely be your cup of tea.
Jim Jefferies High n’ Dry is now streaming on Netflix.
Did you watch Jim Jefferies High n’ Dry yet? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
Of cause I watched it. And it was fucking hilarious. People like you don‘t get it. Jim Jefferies is not making jokes about others, he is making jokes about himself. Just don’t watch it.
100
Totally agree!!
Hir-SHIT-a Das just does not get it!
Hir-SHIT-a probably shouldn’t be pubically reviewing any sort of comedy…
Well… At least not outside the purview of Bill Cosby’s stand-up.
Schoolboy crap, obsessed with shagging wanking and sex, not offended its just soooo boring, last gig in this venue I was at, was Kevin Bridges , talk about going from high to below the depths.. Jim Jeffries can say whatever he likes in my opinion, he may be joking, but it’s dull. He was in Dublin and shagging this Irish bird, great does he want a medal.??? Groundbreaking
Really hilarious. The end was epic!
Absolutely loved it!!
Agreed!!
I loved it! It is all hilarious! Even the parts that were like “yikes” are still hilarious because you know he’s joking and when it comes to jokes… that’s the point. The worse they are, the better. Jokes about taboo tho n an are the best. Sex, life, death… make fun of it all.
This has to be the least nuanced review I’ve read in a long time. Really can’t stand how people think their feelings are representative of reality. Al feelings are real–not all of them are true.
its not nuanced at all, its completely note. there is no nuance in this review at all. which is ironic since the reviewer didnt why jeffries skewers as he does. s/he took the jokes literally instead of how they fit in the longer point he is making.
missing the context of a dark joke (if it jas some larger context) and only harunphing about the darkness is just dumb.
Yeah, no. I get him just fine. I just don’t find bigotry that funny, and frankly bigoted bs from middle aged white dudes entertaining other middle aged white dudes are the ones who don’t ‘get it.’ Unoriginal bollocks.
Definitely this. It’s too bad because I think he used to have some really insightful but funny comments. It’s like he dumbed it down for the type of people who seem to follow him.
Makes point about bigotry by being bigoted. What a fucking dunce.
“bigoted BS from middle aged white dudes” is a very bigoted comment bigot.
reading these reviews after the show is even funnier than the show itself..
Snowflake!
It wasn’t as funny as his other specials, but it definitely wasn’t even slightly bigoted. If you’re seriously offended by this special, you need to take a good hard look at yourself. The world is a hard place to be in and if you’re so soft you think his special is bigoted, then I’m surprised you’ve survived it long enough to learn how to write an article that’s less articulate than my senior project in high school.
“You would think celebrities understand their power, which should restrict them from making insensitive statements”
That is how this review starts… an insensitive statement in itself from someone who doesn’t get comedy and shouldn’t be reviewing it.
First of all : there are no statements, they’re jokes! A comedian may say the opposite of what he actually believes, people laugh because it sounds insensitive and know it’s wrong.
Maybe comedy shouldn’t be reviewed at all…just let them do their job and if people laugh, then that’s the review.
I know Jim personally.
His seemingly more “offensive” comedy is satirical and often focuses on the patterns of hypocrisy within our culture, patterns that any intelligent person can easily observe.
And clearly, I’m not talking about stoned Koalas with Claymida! LOL
On a personal level, Jim has a strong, well centered, generally liberal & clear sense of moral reality.
He uses boldly sarcastic comedy to point out real issues and behaviors that deviate form our generally accepted cultural norms. His jokes are often extreme and quite graphic.
TO BE CERTAIN, much of his comedic content is “x-rated”! And if your sensitivities are so fragile as to be offended by that alone, then DON’T WATCH HIM ON STAGE!!!
Having known Jim for years, I can assure viewers that personally, off stage & among friends he is still very funny… He’s also kind, balanced, generous, and often willing to have serious and significant discussions on culture, society, politics, etc…
Hey Jim! IF you see this reply and can guess who this is… I owe you dinner and something special from the garden!
The man is a a pig.
Way to prove his point about baldness though. You literally put struggles in quotation marks.
Lol it sounds like you should definitely not be reviewing comedy
It was lame, not funny at all. And the review was very accurate. He tries to be offensive and trigger people, but it’s just low level dumb shit.
I saw other specials by him, this one really falls flat.
Lots of people find it funny. Maybe you’re the problem 🤔
If the audience roaring at his jokes uncontrollably maybe you should consider it is you who has the problem. Just because you don’t find something funny does not mean everyone else should agree with you.
The comment section is dumb. The reviewer did her work and y’all need to chill. On a personal note, I didn’t find the episode funny too. Dang.
How much did the PR team of the comedian pay y’all? LoL. Chill down Commenters.
This is a comedy show, not medical science. Jim tells jokes about his understanding of what a trans surgery entails, and shouldn’t be taken as medical advice. The author of this review is obviously ignorant about the difference. While not his most funny bit, most people s emed to approve of it. Even trans people, who actually went through the process.
There was no shred of bigotry, although plenty of insensitive jokes. Of course, one wouldn’t see his show for a sensitivity training. The author of this review should stick to PC sensitive show reviews, and leave comedy for others. BTW, the Greta bit was hilarious.
Well said!
no matter what the segment entailed, the bit was unfunny. it took me back to the early 2000s and maybe you belong from an era way earlier than that, hence why you enjoyed it so thoroughly.
Hilarious. I disagree with this review, but have to say it is in line with how the world is expected to feel when true humor comes to light.
Very very disappointing show by Jeffries.
I use to find him cutting edge and brilliant, but now he’s just churning out cringe material. Really boring and unoriginal.
Jokes about transsexuals are no longer very topical or funny. It’s all been done before.
Sex positions with wife not remotely interesting. Yawn.
Who cares?
He peaked with the gun control and it’s been downhill since.
This is clearly just taking the money from Netflix and going through the motions.
I was going to see him on his new tour, but after that Netflix show will definitely not.
No more please Netflix.
Find the new Jim Jeffries, because this one is no longer funny.
0/5
Woke loser 🤭
Agree. It was cheap humor. Comedy does have limits.
Sounds like you have been offended…
Woke losers keep out!
no he just failed to make me laugh!
Overall a pretty good standup which I rate 8/10. Great start and the jokes roll on pretty well however the Greta bashing was a bit cringe. The wife sex stories were a bit meh as well. Jefferies covers a wide range so there will always be a few misses that may not hit your personal sweet spots. Worth a watch
you are too grown to be getting this worked up over a review. leaving 4 comments demeaning someone who does not have the same opinion as you? it is time to grow up. don’t you think so?
why should he trigger someone in the first place? Comedy is not about offending someone, it is about being funny!
It was just unfunny Jess, it is alright if someone does not have the same opinion as you 🙂
You can not like it if you want, it’s OK that you found it I’m funny. Just know that most people who appreciate comedy actually liked it and this was for them not you. I don’t think this was his best special but it was better than the majority of specials on Netflix. What was the last comedian that you saw live and appreciated it? That’s my question.
This is Jeffries’ best special since BARE.
You don’t watch Jim if your schtick is highbrow comedy or animal videos. You go in eyes open. If you don’t know his work, why are you reviewing comedy? If you do know his work, and you don’t like the cut of his jib, why are you reviewing *his* comedy? Thought you might come around? Or that he has reinvented himself and he’s now doing impersonations?
If anyone is to take a reviewer seriously, they need to show their audience that they’re worth listening to. With comedy, that means you immerse yourself in comedy. You compare this material with that material, analyse the style, note the way the subject material was approached, it’s degree of originality, its impact and reach, how effectively the set ups were, and what the energy was like in the room.
I have no idea whether this is the only comedy special you’ve ever seen in your life. I have no idea of what element in or aspect of this material exactly was so intractably offensive and why. Why is it bigoted? Why is it harmful? Why? Why?
Why should anyone take this opinion more seriously than, say, the overheard remarks of the person standing in front of them in the supermarket queue? You know what they say about opinions and arseholes, right?
Here’s a summary for the TLDR contingent: “I didn’t like it.”
Pleased to be of service.
Some good ideas and funny anecdotes but he kicked the ass out of each topic , he just seemed to go on and on until the shocking funny part was long gone and turned stale.
Sex jokes about his wife must be horridly embarrassing for her , he was just trying too hard to shock and the audience didn’t laugh as much as on previous shows .
I think he should start drinking again ,his work was a lot better then 😅
Your offended !!! Fuck me, that’s the problem with this world. Why in Gods name would they give someone like you a job as a reviewer. I bet it has to do with you being triggered about something Jim said. Please seek the psychiatric help you so desperately need so we don’t have to find ourselves on this platform that uses a spineless woke idiot to write for them.
Get another job love , your fucked anyway
Go polish your participation trophies and find a new job!
Yeah this show was not clever and punching down. I’ve enjoyed his past shows, but this one was not it. It was full of easy shots and tone deaf. Very disappointed.
I have a suggestion that might help you get comedy. Watch Dave Chappelle’s “What’s in a Name”, (Netflix). Stay for the whole thing… it’s lovely. Good luck in your career.
The reviewer should have kept it simple & just said it was absolute garbage, cause she’d be right.
This show really needed a guy with a board to put up to let the audience know when to laugh/applaud!
p.s. No I’m not woke (far from it) & yes, I do have a sense of humour!
Worst Review of a Comedic Special EVER…
If you don’t get / understand humor, maybe you should avoid reviewing it.
Your review reads like a senate subcommittee debate on the musical merits, and lyrical dangers of Prince’s Purple Rain album.
You clearly have no business doing reviews for comedy. You discussed none of the things that make or break good comedy. Instead, you focused on the subject matter you found objectional, then, to quote Bill Burr, gave it “a bad read”. You were totally disingenuous.
Vulgarity is not the same thing as being homophobic. What is egregious, is that you leveled very serious and untrue allegations against someone, knowing you would bear zero responsibility for what you’ve said. And you did it for your own personal gain.
Do you seriously make a living reviewing comedy? It’s just not for you.
“Unfunny, Unbearable and Bigoted” -> if that’s not advertising “please watch!!!” I don’t know what is! I was going to skip, but after seeing this review I of course watched the whole thing and I LOVED IT!! Seriously recommend!! Jefferies is king!!
I don’t find it funny at all. And I’m not even trans, a teenage girl or bald, so it’s not me taking it personally. There are things that we shouldn’t joke about. Humor is supposed to lift people up and not make them feel bad.
Maybe it’s your morals that are nonexistent so you actually like Jim’s lame jokes.
Reality TV is popular. That doesn’t mean it’s funny
Better this journalist write about weather…
jeffries is corny as fuck
