House of the Dragon Episode 4 Review: King of the Narrow Sea

House of the Dragon Episode 4 is titled King of the Narrow Sea. It is directed by Clare Kilner, and the teleplay is written by Ira Parker. The Disney+ Hotstar series stars Paddy Considine as King Viserys I Targaryen, Milly Alcock as Young Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen, Emily Carey as young Lady Alicent Hightower, Rhys Ifans as Ser Otto Hightower, Steve Toussaint as Lord Corlys Velaryon, Eve Best as Princess Rhaenys Velaryon, and Fabien Frankel as Ser Criston Cole.

The series is a prequel to Game of Thrones and is based on George RR Martin’s Fire & Blood.The synopsis reads, “After Rhaenyra cuts short her tour of Westeros, Daemon introduces the princess to the Street of Silk after dark.”

House of the Dragon Episode 4 Recap/Review Contains Some Spoilers

In House of the Dragon Episode 4, Rhaenyra has to choose a suitor for herself to get married. Despite two of them fighting with swords to prove worthy, she chooses to walk out with her kingsguard, Ser Criston Cole. Her attitude doesn’t sit well with King Viserys I Targaryen. He’s very upset with his daughter.

Daemon Targaryen returns to the King’s Landing and tells Viserys that he’s now the King of the Narrow Sea. He handovers his crown to Viserys and bows before him. Viserys is happy with his brother’s gesture and asks him to stay. Later, Viserys and Daemon reminisce about their younger days and all the fun they had. But Viserys is still upset with his daughter and ignores her.

Queen Alicent comforts Princess Rhaenyra and tries to portray marriage as something good. But Rhaenyra tells Alicent she will just be used as a machine to produce heirs. Rhaenyra’s words hit Alicent.

At night, Daemon takes Rhaenyra out in the King’s Landing. The Princess is disguised as a boy. From showing her a play about the Targaryen’s heir dilemma to taking her to the brothel, Daemon makes the night memorable for his niece. But that doesn’t go well as several people spot the Princess.

The next day, Otto tells Viserys that there is gossip about Daemon and Princess Rhaenyra involved in physical pleasures. However, the Princess denies these allegations. We see Alicent being a mother to Rhaenyra, questioning her about everything that happened the other night.

Did something happen between Daemon and Rhaenyra? You will have to watch the entire episode to know the answers.

House of the Dragon Episode 4: Final Thoughts

House of the Dragon Episode 4 has changed everything we have seen. It keeps getting darker and more complicated. King Viserys I Targaryen will surely lose his mind once he discovers whatever has happened. The Princess is constantly pressured to get married. But who will she get married to? We don’t know yet.

The episode showed us that Alicent truly cares about her friend Rhaenyra. Yet, she is one person we have not figured out yet. The tension, drama and scandal in today’s episode will remind fans of Game of Thrones.
