Holy Family Season 2 Review: Discussion

holy family season 2 review

The story starts from where we left off with the disastrous accident that sent both Caterina and German to the hospital. Now, Gloria must do everything in her power to make the situation as normal as possible by keeping Natalia away from her son and in her basement.

She also tries to strike a deal with Natalia’s father, Fernando, who is also trying his best to get his hands on his daughter and, hopefully, on his grandson. But obviously, Gloria is not going to lose so easily. Apart from Gloria’s family, we also discover the secrets and issues of other families and the dynamics of their relationship.

The second season comes back with the same tone and pace for the viewers to experience the rest of the story. We get more twists and turns this season and discover some new unknown facts that reestablish how big of a part Gloria has in her children’s lives, particularly her son Santi. But it is also true that Gloria’s love is excessive beyond imagination, and she really can do anything and everything to keep her children safe. At times, it definitely crosses normal boundaries and creates more problems for her than solves anything.

The sole reason the entire predicament is happening is definitely because both the mothers can not let go of Nico, as they believe he belongs to them. They do not care for his well-being or the fact that this is becoming a mindless tug of war at this point, and they just commit pretty atrocious deeds to win the bid.

But they’re not alone this time; we also saw what other parents can do for the sake of their kids. Pedro turns out to be an excellent father figure for German and Caterina’s daughter, while Blanca tries to do the best for her son in her own ways. They are also struggling with their households and the change that is taking place throughout the town because of the presence of Gloria and her kids.

The best part about this show is its fast pace; whatever situation it is, it does not last long, keeping you with the story at all times. But the mysteries and twists turn guessable at times, and they don’t surprise you after some point. The whole taking Nico back also becomes repetitive, and you never know with whom the child will actually grow up.

But I must admit they did a better job at portraying the conclusion than the first season. Many were disappointed with how things turned out in season 1, but here, you will get a proper ending.

I also like how this series stays true to the theme of the storyline, which is the lengths a mother can go to for her children. And we see first-hand how every mother in the story and even fathers can fight for their kids even if they are not blood-related.

Verdict

This was a satisfactory follow-up to the previous season. A much-needed one, I must say, as the first season left us on a cliffhanger without a good climax. This season has its merits, but at the same time, it might get boring for some to get the same kind of twists again. But the conclusion finishes the story properly and does justice to many of the characters who deserved better.
