Golden Hour MV has been finally released on 7th April 2023, making it the second solo track by the K-pop group NCT’s member Mark. He has earlier released his single Child in 2022 and the second single is released through SM STATION: NCT LAB, which is an archive of NCT’s music activities, including solo, unit and group songs where artists get an opportunity to release self-composed and produced tracks.
The song was getting traction on social media due to its meme(ic) history which everyone in the group’s fandom is aware of. It all leads back to the year 2018, when a fan tweeted Gordon Ramsay, asking his opinion on the eggs that his boyfriend made. It was actually a screenshot of NCT’s Mark cooking eggs.
Known for his blunt remarks, Ramsay actually replied to the tweet telling the person to go back on Tinder (find a new boyfriend). While this became a big meme among the fandom and always comes up in the list of funny incidents done by a fan. It all came full circle when Mark himself acknowledged the post and even thanked the person for inspiring him for the song, in the latest live stream. He further commented that it’s not at all a diss track but rather a shout-out to Ramsay.

The music video starts off with an egg breaking on the floor and we see Mark sitting with a menu that has all kinds of egg dishes on it. Visually the use of yellow colour in props, through light and even the hair colour of the artist brings in a contrast. Also, various objects which are similar to the shape of a sunny-side-up egg ie a circular yolk in the middle with the surrounding white or neutral colour.
Lyrically, Marks plays with his words and uses creative puns. He even raps about not knowing how to make eggs but he definitely doesn’t stress about it because he has enough people to cook up for him. The interesting part that would perk up everyone’s ears is the bridge where he sings “I’m calling Gordon Ramsay, I’m cooking up, I’ll cook you up…”
In the second half of the song, the style changes with some rock influences, musically and even visually, as Mark is seen rapping in an abandoned room with masked band members and the red flickering light gives a strong impact. Overall, it’s a fun and peppy song where Mark easily transitions from rapping to singing and even harmonising, showcasing his multi-talented abilities in full focus.
