First Love Ending Explained
The final episode of the show named Hatsukoi begins with the scene of a young Yae Noguchi leaving for her examination which shifts to the present time when she arrives in her hometown to dig out the time capsule she had buried with her first love.
As she reminisces about the past while looking through the things she had hidden in this capsule, among which is a ticket that takes her takes her back to the day she gave a practice exam. She then takes out the other box which contains Harumichi Namiki’s secret which brings her to tears.

She soon returns to work where she meets with Uta who lets her know that she will be leaving soon. The two spend a wonderful evening, but after this comes a chase as she rushes Tsuzuru to the airport so that the two can meet one last time.
Giving them a chance to find their special moment, Yae then proceeds to use all her paid holidays at once for a trip of her own. However, the timing couldn’t be worse as the Covid-19 crisis hits the world and a lockdown is implemented everywhere.
3 years later, everything has changed as Tsuzuru is finally able to pursue the path he loves along with his first love- Uta. And what comes along with their reunion at the airport is a surprise for Yae as Uta shows Tsuzuru a picture of Harumichi that had been taken by chance during her travels.

The scene then shifts to Yae on a flight to find her first love as she takes out the letter that she found in Harumichi’s capsule. He writes of the time when he fell head over heels for her while on a train bound for Kitami. He confesses the time when he worked hard for the first time to get into the same school as her and it was when he saw her there did he believe that it is the work of fate that brought them together.
He confesses his most special secret, the story of his first love and hid it in the time capsule. But along with this is something more; Harumichi dug up the time capsule before he disappeared and left behind a wish to meet her again to find out her story next.
Yae soon reaches Iceland and with much difficulty, she makes her way to Husavik where she finally reunites with Harumichi and the two are able to fulfil their first love as well as their dreams of being a pilot and a flight attendant.

Yae’s story is also revealed at the end where we see the young her at the Appaushi station as she followed the tickets she found in her book to meet the silly boy she saw on the train.

Will There Be A First Love Season 2?
First Love brings a beautiful ending to the story of Yae Noguchi and Harumichi Namiki, however, this does not mean that there cannot be a season 2. While the show has been based on hit songs by Hikaru Utada, this is the story of the first time falling in love which means that there are many more stories out there waiting for us.
So while the possibility of Yae and Harumichi coming back to us is very low, we can find the story of two new lovers if the show is to ever be renewed. Every story of first love is different and I would love to witness another magic if it is anywhere as heartwarming as this one.
