Drops of God Episode 3 Recap
There are only a few days left for Camille to figure out what the wine is, and till now, she and Thomas have only narrowed it down to one ingredient. However, now that their case has been cracked, they can knock out multiple other elements from the wine she had tasted for the test. Now all that is left to do is compile these notes to come up with the name and the year. Thomas is a major help to her, but he can only take her so far.
After finding an extremely niche wine featuring one of the elements is the Lignon. This wine contains the aroma of a celery root, which is generally not associated with red wines, but this one has that. The duo drove up to the original vineyard where this wine came from, but the owners didn’t have a single bottle because they had sold all of them. However, they did confirm that there could be notes of what she was talking about in the wine. Thomas and Camille leave disappointed but not afraid.
She leaves for Tokyo and meets her dad’s friend Luca who is around to help her find the wine. When she tells him the specifics, he tells her he cannot just open a 12,000 Euro wine for her. However, his maitre’d Miyabi is intelligent enough to note that one of their guests is coming to the restaurant, and he generally drinks by the bottle so that they can open this one. This means that Camille will have to learn how to hold a wine bottle, serve people, and be a waiter.

After a strenuous couple of hours that rendered the bottle almost empty, Camille finds that this is not the wine she had tasted during the test. She tells Thomas about this, and the man leaves his work and girlfriend back home to help her. The four of them get together and try to narrow down the elements and kinds of wine as closely as possible. Eventually, Lorenzo tells the group that they should take a break. Inspiration strikes Thomas, and he notes that the celery root smell is probably truffle because of how the wine ages.

They immediately start brainstorming and narrow it down to two choices, both of them most probable and very difficult to distinguish. Although Camille is gifted with a sharp sense of smell and taste, this challenge will be difficult because she would have had to choose the year on her own, a difficult prospect. They only had a few hours left, and she wouldn’t be tasting the wine before she would have to declare it.
Meanwhile, Tomine has been going through his own crisis. His mother and grandfather want him to join the family business, but he knows that his calling is wine. Still, to appease them, he would back out of this contest and officially notify a journalist of the same. But a conversation with her reveals that these responses are only coming out of fear and not actual coherent thought. He takes that to heart and speaks to his father about it.

The situation in his family now is that his dad is a doormat for his mother, who treats him like the dust at the bottom of her shoe, and Tomine is fed up with it. He is tired of letting other people walk over him, so he chooses to have his legacy be the wine he will win from Camille. With all of this churning in his head, he comes to the place she is staying at, and the executioner of the will pours them the wine once again.
Tomine quickly discerns what the colour is like, and what the wine is and writes it down on the sheet. Camille takes a while, completely loses herself in the taste and lets intuition guide her to write the year. She almost gets it right, but Tomine beats her to the year, and the loss is grave.
Drops of God Episode 3 Review
While this episode wasn’t as exciting as the previous ones regarding the trauma exploration, the wild goose chase and the dramatic fervour with which they try to find the wine make this instalment of the series interesting. This writer is rooting for Camille and Tomine to get together because the tension they have created between each other has been thick and can clearly be cut with a knife. Since she and Thomas don’t have such good chemistry, this writer only hopes for the ship to get better with the coming episodes.
