Doctor Slump Ending Explained

Towards the end of the finale episode, we see Hong-ran and Dae-young on a picnic with her son as the latter expresses his embarrassment when facing her. The reason for this is that the incident where she saved him from a client is stuck in his mind and he is unable to get over how she came to save him right after he promised to save her for life.

Hong-ran understands his reason and tells him that they can take turns protecting each other and she is not dating him so that he can impress him. Instead, it is his kindheartedness that makes her attracted to him which comes from how he takes care of her son and doesn’t hold back on letting go of Nurse Do and Jeong-woo so that they can live their dream.

Dae-young recalls the discussion he had with Jeong-woo when he told him to go open his clinic like he wanted to. Jeong-woo wasn’t ready to go ahead as he believed that he still needed to repay Dae-young, however, the latter expressed that Jeong-woo should make his way into the world again as he had already paid him enough.

Hong-ran’s heart melts at this as she hugs him and tells him that this is only proof of his kindness. She then asks him about Jeong-woo’s clinic and Dae-young imagines Jeong-woo to have a nice car and place in hand, ready for a flashy return.

However, contrary to what he expects, Jeong-woo has chosen a smaller place to open his business as his plans this time are different. Unlike previous times, he is now overwhelmed when opening his clinic and cannot stop gushing over every little detail that has gone into putting together his clinic. He tells Ha-neul that this time, he is ready to do more good deeds in his work and put more effort into building a rapport with his patients, which is why he is going to start small.

With a smaller staff and fewer patients, he is ready to not himself exhausted. Ha-neul is happy for him and brings forth a little drinking party she has prepared for the two. Meanwhile, the lives of everyone are settling down.

Ba-da has a small dream to become famous over the internet through his milmyeon, while Tae-seon reunites with his first love. Elsewhere, Jeogn-woo’s friends meet their high school teacher and are slowly getting a hang of their skewers business. Jeong-woo contacts Dr Kang, and invites him to work together again.

Back in the clinic, Ha-neul looks at the newly opened place and is reminded of the time when Jeong-woo took her to his old clinic. This reminds them of the sunrise they failed to see last time and decided to catch it this time.

The two make their way to the beach as they recall how they met in their moment of despair when nothing was going right for them. But now, their slumps don’t look as bad as they thought of them to be. The night they cried together when they endured their pain and overcame their fears, everything that they learned together comes back to them.

Ultimately, they escaped their slumps together and are now on the beach where the sunrise is finally visible to them. Suddenly, Jeong-woo asks for an answer to his proposal which makes Ha-neul laugh as they have their wedding pictures to be taken the upcoming week.

But Jeong-woo is persistent and asks for an answer and Ha-neul prepares for it which makes him excited. However, Ha-neul just tells him to get married already which is not what he was expecting as she runs away from embarrassment.

As they walk away, they accept that they can be happy today and sad tomorrow for the two emotions go side by side. However, they will be okay because now they have the strength to endure everything that comes their way.
