Deep Cover Review

Prime Video’s action comedy film Deep Cover is a light-hearted entertainer that had me entertained from the first minute. Following three down-on-their-luck people who take up an undercover gig to infiltrate a criminal organisation only to find themselves going deeper and deeper into the quicksand, the series is a light-hearted and fun hoot that will leave you chuckling for a lot of the runtime.

The storyline isn’t fancy, but the characters are charming and the situations are silly and irrelevant, giving us the perfect dose of fun entertainment that will leave most viewers with the dose of entertainment that they all want and need. Bryce Dallas Howard, Orlando Bloom and Nick Mohammed are the perfect trio for the roles of Kat, Marlon and Hugh and will leave you thoroughly amused with their tomfoolery.

From finding themselves too good at the job at hand to realising that they are being taken for a ride by their handler, the film goes through a few twists and turns which, although expected, end up being entertaining regardless. The story is fast-paced, and the 100-minute runtime is perfect to deliver it. It doesn’t dwell on anything for too long and gives us one silly situation after another that these bumbling bafoons somehow ace.

The story is irrelevant and unimaginative, and the characters are too obvious for this movie to be anything different from what you expect it to be from the first minute. But, it still executes itself great, especially thanks to the actors. The lead trio are simply fantastic, and special mention should be given to Orlando Bloom, who bats it out of the park. The three have fun chemistry with one another that adds to the funny moments, despite everything being so clichéd.

Apart from that, the film doesn’t have much else to talk about. It’s simple, it’s obvious, and it does what it goes out to do. Other than that, there’s little else that this film offers. It’s extremely forgettable, but that’s fine in this scenario. I think keeping your expectations right will result in a good time with this one. It’s almost amusing how embarrassingly unoriginal the script is… makes you wonder whether anyone really made any effort to come up with something memorable.

Final Thoughts

There’s not a lot that I can discuss about Deep Cover because there’s nothing here to discuss. It’s obvious what this movie is the moment it starts, but the performances make it entertaining. Thanks to the cast, this one is a fun watch; otherwise, it would’ve been a headache and then some.
