Chainsaw Man – The Movie Reze Arc Overview
Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc is a 2025 Japanese animated dark fantasy action film adapted from Tatsuki Fujimoto’s popular manga Chainsaw Man. Serving as a continuation of the anime’s first season, the movie is directed by Tatsuya Yoshihara with a screenplay by Hiroshi Seko and produced by MAPPA.
The film premiered in Japan on September 19, 2025, distributed by Toho. International audiences will be able to see it through Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Releasing, beginning September 24 in select Asian regions and expanding worldwide by October 24, 2025.

Upon release, Reze Arc opened at number one in the Japanese box office, selling over 272,000 tickets and earning more than ¥420 million (about US$2.8 million) on its first day alone. Its opening weekend drew around 807,000 viewers, grossing ¥1.251 billion (roughly US$8.46 million), surpassing the record set by Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, which had dominated for nine weeks straight.
In India, the film recorded limited interest, grossing about ₹50 lakh on its first day, with a significant portion of earnings attributed to IMAX screenings.
Chainsaw Man – The Movie Reze Arc Review

Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc is as bold and bleak as the series itself, and it comes at you guns blazing without holding anything back. The story focuses on Denji, the Chainsaw Man himself, who does not really have complex interests or wants in his life. He swears that he loves Makima and even manages to secure a date with her. But the moment a cute and mysterious girl around his age, called Reze, enters his life, Denji’s unwavering adoration for Makima starts to shake. He finally gets someone who seems to genuinely find his jokes funny and even showcases a tremendous amount of fondness for him, something that he does not really get often.

The movie depicts just how lonely Denji is in his life very masterfully. He craves love endlessly because he was never given such a basic emotion by anyone ever since he was a child. Thus, whenever someone shows even a tiny bit of interest in him, he does not think about dangers or consequences and just latches on to them in the hopes of securing love. But because of his gullibility, people take advantage of him, and he falls victim to those with malicious intentions towards him.
The highlight of this movie is, hands down, its animation, which is not just beautiful but also chaotic and explosive, just like its franchise. Mappa uses a lot of animation techniques in these action scenes, and every frame looks gorgeous, especially the fight sequences. I also like the fact that even though Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc does not try to be exclusively emotional, the sadness comes through because of Denji’s loneliness.

If I have to compare this and Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, I definitely like this one better, because it truly felt like the screenplay was crafted for a movie. Another aspect that I absolutely cannot compliment enough is its mesmerising music that goes well with every part very faithfully. The ending was also really good, as it gives answers to some questions, but also leaves enough things to create hype for the upcoming anime season.

Verdict
I absolutely love this anime, and I do not really have any bad things to say about it. It had everything, from comedy to moving scenes to endless action. For me, this was definitely the best animated movie that came out in 2025, and I will definitely suggest everyone to go check this out.

Totally agree (top anime film)= even if not fan / familiar with the pre-lore / romance arc etc., just sit back and await the expected=de rigueur battle segment’s color palette almost explode off the screen*: astonishingly spectacular in its utter absurdist surrealism – sorta like the transfixing mesmerising ‘astral-plane’ journey effect way back in ’68 ‘2001, Space Oddity’: as such beware (or ensure?!) being on ‘anything’ when it comes – *so, yup, if can try see in cinema and on BIGGEST screen possible you can. Astounding!
