Chainsaw Man Episode 9 Review- NO!

Katana Man Chainsaw Man Episode 9

The show did not make it any easier to talk about Chainsaw Man Episode 9 when compared to the previous one. There is still just as much that we can’t discuss due to it being speculative or full of spoilers, but there is a lot apart from that as well that we can talk about. For one, that was a fantastic sucker punch by the show that it has completely gotten away with. How the previous two episodes have been written says a lot about how unconventional this show really is, despite appealing to the base instincts of most watchers.

The show suckered the viewers in by running a series of slice-of-life-esque segments in the leadup to Chainsaw Man Episode 8, featuring plotlines such as a dinner party which would feature most of the squadmates who were going to die in the later episodes, acting out as if nothing was wrong in this world. Who could have seen this coming? How could they have known that they would have several pounds of lead dumped down in their bodies in just a few short days? And if the characters themselves couldn’t realise it, there is no way the audience was getting that either,

Kobeni Denji Chainsaw Man Episode 9

There was also a scene between Denji and Himeko that could have acted as both a Death Flag and a start of a long journey together, and it turned out to be the first one. Himeno wasn’t going to get her wish after all, and Denji would never see his first friend again after being attacked after the attack from the followers of the Gun Devil. That came extremely out of the left field and can’t be called a good twist because of that, but it being surprising is enough for most people and for myself.

Chainsaw Man Episode 9 is built on the premise laid up by the previous one as Denji finally wakes up and pulls his chain to take on the Katana Demon himself. The fight between them was underwhelming and not very engaging, as some cracks are beginning to show in the show’s plentiful action scenes. How many different kinds of moves can one even do with just three chainsaws attached to their body? Denji needs a new trick other than “hit the enemy until they stop breathing”. He also isn’t very good with this one skill, but that will require some time and can wait.

The reports of a few deaths were greatly exaggerated because, as it happened, a lot of help was needed to recover from the huge blow that was dealt to the Devil Hunters in these two episodes. We saw a bunch of what could only be classified as divine miracles based on the information we had so far, a lot of which made you reevaluate the characters and see them in a different light. The show feels extremely exciting at this moment because everything we ever knew has been thrown out of the window. This is great.

Verdict

Chainsaw Man Episode 9 was a highly unpredictable episode that forced the show to show a lot of its hidden hands and showcased a different perspective to the remaining characters. One of the most exciting things in anime is a new episode of Chainsaw Man.
