Chainsaw Man Episode 6 Overview

Denji Chainsaw Man Episode 6

Chainsaw Man is an action, adventure and supernatural anime put on our screen by Studio MAPPA, a hugely popular studio behind some of the other extremely popular shonen properties right now, such as Attack on Titan and Jujutsu Kaisen. The series is based on a manga of the same name written by Tatsuki Fujimoto. Click here to read the review of the previous episode!

The show is being directed by Tatsuya Ishihara, who has been a part of the productions of Black Clover and Monster Musume. The series was first serialised on Jump+, an online counterpart to the hugely popular Shonen Jump magazine. The manga has sold over thirteen million copies in less than four years of circulation.

Chainsaw Man Episode 6 Review- Denji Must Die

Power Denji Chainsaw Man Episode 6

This is going to be an Aki appreciation review, so get on board. Chainsaw Man has a lot of things going for it, but having likeable characters is not one of them. Denji is a pretty hit-or-miss protagonist whose sexual way of looking at everything around him can turn many people off. Makima is shady and has a lot up her sleeve, and Power is extremely immature and only good in very small doses. As this episode showcased more of the Devil Hunting squad these guys are a part of, I can’t say I’m particularly fond of any of the characters introduced, either. Aki, however, is a cinnamon bun that needs to be protected at all costs.

He has been very well fleshed out in the little time we have had with him on screen. His first fight with Denji, the assessment of his humanity by asking him about his thoughts on Devils, and finally, Denji living alongside him tell us more about Aki than any other character. Aki is only human. A human with a vengeance in his head and an extremely kind heart. He is thus the most interesting character to follow because he is mortal and can die at any given moment, unlike Power and Denji. Interestingly, we talk about having to die here, as that is what Chainsaw Man Episode 6 was all about.

Aki Chainsaw Man Episode 6

The eighth floor of the hotel was a fantastic location for a story of this kind and one that the show executed very well. There was a feeling of trepidation in the air that everything could go very, very bad at any given moment. Was it scary? No. But it didn’t need to be. The show was going for discomforting and believably anxiety-inducing for its characters, which it managed very well. The monster hidden there was just as much inside the minds of all the characters as it was roaming around in the halls.

How each character dealt with the situation proved to be a litmus test for how bearable they were, and only one of the new characters, Himeno, passed it. She is a lovely old lady with a probably dark past and an upbeat personality. She is also a great friend to Aki, which is always a wonderful thing to happen to your favourite character. None of the others, however, are any good. Arai is milquetoast in a bad way, and Kobeni might be more annoying than Power herself. One out of three isn’t that bad, I guess.

Chainsaw Man Episode 6 had some great animation sequences and a fantastic soundtrack. The soundtrack especially fit the mysterious tone of the show well. The episode also raised an interesting dilemma, one that has been observed in philosophy for quite some time. Would you sacrifice the life of a few to save the life of many? Probably. Would you even do it if you knew the person you were sacrificing? Maybe. What if it was someone close, maybe a friend? That’s when the issues start to happen, and the show represented that very well.

Verdict

Chainsaw Man Episode 6 was great! The tone of anxiety and uneasiness that it brought was very well realized, and there are a lot of new possible directions for the show now that this has occurred.
