Chainsaw Man Episode 10 Overview

Himeno Chainsaw Man Episode 10 Review

Chainsaw Man is an action, adventure, and supernatural anime put on our screen by Studio MAPPA, a hugely popular studio behind some of the other extremely popular shonen properties right now, such as Attack on Titan and Jujutsu Kaisen. The series is based on a manga of the same name written by Tatsuki Fujimoto. Click here to read the review of the previous episode!

The show is being directed by Tatsuya Ishihara, who has been a part of the productions of Black Clover and Monster Musume. The series was first serialised on Jump+, an online counterpart to the hugely popular Shonen Jump magazine. The manga has sold over thirteen million copies in less than four years of circulation.

Chainsaw Man Episode 10 Review- Who Will Miss Us When We Die

Denji Power Chainsaw Man Episode 10 Review

This episode was a morbid watch, for it dealt with the themes of death and recovery. When you work in a profession as dangerous as Devil Hunting, where deaths are a norm and not freak accidents, getting used to them isn’t a very big deal. The show made a point of showcasing a scene with the late Himeno and a new character about the regrets relating to dead partners, and the same topic was broached in a totally unique direction here. While nobody died in this episode, you could feel everyone get much closer to death than they were before.

Aki’s state in this episode was a sad one. He watched his buddy disappear in real-time, trying to save him from dying while he was dying himself. Even though he was one of the lucky ones who survived, he also reduced his own life significantly through the use of his cursed sword despite Himeno trying to do everything she could to make sure he didn’t have to. Aki has seemingly lost everything he held dear, but that’s nothing new to him. Aki has dealt with worse and lost people much closer to him than Himeno ever was.

Denji Dead Chainsaw Man Episode 10 Review

He remains the only character you can relate to in this show by a large margin, for he is apparently the only one who still has a heart. A large part of the episode was Denji dealing with his reaction “or lack thereof” towards the death of someone he called a friend, even if not for long. There were some very poignant lines from his end about mortality, his relation to it, and how he might be losing too much of his humanity. While Denji might not have been the right medium for this speech in this show, his words were very effective and rang true in many ways.

Come to think of it, the show does not have many likeable characters. Except for Aki, all the other main characters have major flaws that make them different shades of grey. Power is dumb, cowardly, and weak, being a weaker and much more annoying version of Denji. Speaking of Denji, despite his best efforts, he is still a kid, and there are a lot of quirks that come with that. His thing is being brutally honest and chronically dumb, a dangerous combination. There’s a lot we don’t know about Makima, but she is scary and knows a lot more than she lets on.

As we lost a lot of the main cast in the previous episodes, it was time the show introduced some people to take their place. That’s how we got Kishibe in this episode, who is a fantastic fit for the show. He does a lot to legitimise Devil Hunters and showcase how strong mere humans can be if dedicated and crazy enough. His interactions with Denji and Power were very satisfying, and he is going to be a key player in the show. Hopefully, he doesn’t also die in the next three episodes as Himeno did.

Verdict

Chainsaw Man Episode 10 was a fresh start for the series after many fictional setbacks. There is a lot of learning and rebuilding left to do as we have moved into a great new direction with some of the characters.
