Big Bet Episode 8 Ending

Mark and Seung-hoon set out on a mission to catch Charlie aka Kyung-young after receiving another piece of intel regarding his whereabouts. The former warns the latter to stay put while he takes care of the action since this work doesn’t fall under his jurisdiction and he could get severely injured in the mess, especially since he’s not be allotted a workforce weapon of his own either. Upon reaching the motel, however, Seung-hoon can’t help but follow his instincts and gets pulled into the cat and mouse chase. Charlie tries to make a run for it, but both officers eventually pin him down.

On the other end of the story, all employees of the Bolton are enjoying their time off and engaging in team recreational activities. Seok-jun and Moo-sik exchange a word about Tae-seok’s growing insolence and disregard for authority, while the former also conveys his thanks to Moo-sik for helping him expand his business to its present stature. Moo-sik promises him about taking the Tae-seok situation in his hands, but all doesn’t end well for him as he soon receives a call from the Agiles Police Chief, warning him about the Korean Embassy order to shoot him on sight if necessary due to his alleged involvement in a kidnapping.

Moo-sik can’t just sit back after hearing this and threatens Yoon-gi and his family’s safety. Neither of the two back down in the ongoing tug of war, but Yoon-gi heads out to ensure his family’s protection. Meanwhile, Seung-hoon finally gets his hands on a gun off the record.

The last scene of the episode i.e. the Big Bet Season 1 Finale takes us back to Moo-sik’s residence in the dead of the night. While he appears to be deep in sleep, a menacing silhouette walks towards him and points the gun at him. Moo-sik doesn’t even need to open his eyes to recognise Tae-seok. Once he opens them, Tae-seok readjusts his firm grip on the trigger and the foreboding sensation is built up further, only for us to catch a glimpse of shots being fired in the distance, leaving the pool of questions unanswered as to the exact of visual of the scene.

Big Bet Episode 8 Review

It’s quite an easy speculation to arrive at that Moo-sik is still alive because all these events are from the past when Seok-jun was still alive. We’re still miles away from the present moment that kicked off the initial setting of the series, i.e. Moo-sik being suspected for the murder of his boss/ close acquaintance.

The finale packed in the right amount of tension, lighthearted comical reliefs, action and drama, while also giving us an insight into previously introduced characters like Tae-seok, Yoon-gi and others, whom we’ve missed out on during the past few episodes. The stage has been set for the second season that will be premiering soon. Seung-hoon has tried his best at keeping his impulses under control till now, but now that the action alarm blares off in the near distance, he can’t keep away from being an active member in it too.

If the first season was majorly focussed on the setting up the political tensions running underneath the Casino business, its sequel has already foreshadowed the incoming action-packed journey that will directly pit Son Suk-ku and Choi Min-sik’s characters against each other. I can’t wait to watch this exchange unfold on my screen. It’s taken me quite some time to grow accustomed to this drama series as the initial pacing caught me off guard, but the latter half of the season has got me hooked for the longer run indeed.

Big Bet episode 7 is now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
