Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian Episode 1 Recap
The debut episode of this new rom-com anime introduces us to a straightforward yet charming story. We meet Alya, a high school student with Russian roots, whose striking looks and captivating charm make her a standout at school. Despite her popularity, Alya is a classic Tsundere, struggling to show her true feelings and often appearing aloof and haughty. As a member of the student council, she comes across as even more intimidating. However, she has a soft spot for one person.
Kuze, an unassuming otaku who sits next to Alya, is the one person she lets her guard down around. Despite his lack of flashy qualities, Kuze is likeable and becomes the recipient of Alya’s playful and sometimes bashful behaviour.
A unique twist in their interactions is Alya’s use of Russian to either compliment Kuze or express her romantic feelings, assuming he doesn’t understand. Unbeknownst to her, Kuze had a Russian friend growing up and comprehends most of what she says. Understanding the potential embarrassment for Alya, Kuze chooses to keep this knowledge to himself, maintaining the pretence of ignorance.
Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian Episode 2 Review

This episode was quite difficult for me to watch till the end because of the sheer secondhand embarrassing moments you have to endure. Right off the bat, Kuze lands himself in such a situation when he acts all cutesy in front of Yuki and only later discovers that Alya is present in the room.
Alya, seeing Kuze acting like this in front of Yuki, his supposed childhood friend, was not happy at all. She does not appreciate the fact that he gives Yuki attention effortlessly while talking and behaving politely in front of her. Alya again blatantly asks for attention in Russian, but obviously, Kuze understood everything.

The highlight of this episode was definitely the part where it was revealed that Yuki, the prim and proper childhood friend of Kuze, is far from what we think she is. She is the actual blood-related sister of Kuze, who is also a huge otaku with a heavy sadistic streak. She is not a sophisticated lady at home but rather an eccentric and very playful girl who loves to toy with people, especially her brother and Alya. It is also her ploy to act as a childhood friend to Kuze in school just for fun.
Things become more complicated when the two siblings go to a shopping mall for some shopping but suddenly feel a gaze at them. Apparently, they have been followed by a very troubled Alya, who is confused as to what these two are doing together. Yuki, being an absolute prankster, quickly dawns on her aristocratic noblewoman act and insinuates that she slept with Kuze and is now wearing his shirt because they are close.
Today’s episode was really funny and entertaining. The moment Yuki first came to the screen in the 1st episode, there was something off about her as she was deliberately toying with Alya and her feelings. Yuki is also a pretty big bro-con thus, it is understandable why she tries to rile Alya up whenever she can.

But do not worry this show will not go into the dangerous incest zone and keep the whole thing just a joke.
Verdict
Today’s episode was again pretty good but sometimes unbearable because of the humiliation you feel on behalf of Alya. Yuki comes off as a very versatile character who will definitely make things interesting in the future. If you still have not started watching this series, then I urge you to do it ASAP.
