Marvel fans were a bit taken aback by the lacuna of new announcements at the D23 Expo 2022. Despite that, it’s always a bit reassuring and uplifting to welcome back pre-established characters like Nick Fury, the acting grandfather who put the team together.
The bottomless pool of Marvel content is no closer to being ceased anytime soon. And even though D23 might not have formally announced the well-anticipated titles for the X-Men franchise, Deadpool, and others, the MCU is surely expanding exponentially by the minute.
So, here are all the TV and movie titles, and sneak peeks into the Feige ‘Multiverse Madness’ for the few upcoming Phases that were unveiled at the Marvel D23 Expo.
Marvel D23 Expo 2022 Title Announcements
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Although this is one of the few titles already introduced at the San Diego Comic-Con, D23 Expo brought along some new footage from the upcoming final movie of Phase 4, due in theatres on November 11, 2022. Ryan Coogler is taking back the mantle to sing of this new Wakandan legend.
The new teaser showcases Wankanda on attack, with some people targetting Vibranium as Wakandans assume control to defend their honor. Letitia Wright, Angela Bassett Ramonda, Daniel Kaluuya, Danai Gurira, Lupita Nyong’o, and others will be joined by Tenoch Huerta as Namor in the film.

Secret Invasion
Samuel L. Jackson is finally back in business to take over the matters as Skrulls continue to infiltrate the world. The trailer brings back Cobie Smulders’ Maria Hill in action, who’s been restless for Fury to assume charge but he’s been evading her all this time. Secret Invasion talks have been in the air for quite a bit and it seems like, the series will put an end to Fury’s run from Earth because “this is different”.
To pique the audience’s interest, even more, the trailer also gives us the first look at Emilia Clarke and Olivia Colman’s characters. Others resuming their post are Don Cheadle’s Rhodey, Ben Mendelsohn, Kingsley Ben-Adir, and more.
The actual plot is still a mystery but the fact that Fury has to rethink his retirement plans is enough to get us back in the chase and figure out what the deal is. The release date for the forthcoming series hasn’t been announced yet but since the trailer is out we can anticipate a 2023 release slated for it.
Werewolf by Night
Coming out as one of Marvel Studios’ “Special Presentation”, Werewolf by Night has been disclosed as the upcoming Halloween Special that had been unnamed for all these past months. The Disney+ special is right around the corner and will be released on October 7, 2022, and is most likely to follow the path of comedy.
Its storyline is put into motion because of the death of the leader of “a secret cabal of monster hunters”. They assemble at the Bloodstone Temple in the memory of Ulysses Bloodstone but are eventually pushed into “a hunt that will ultimately bring them face to face with a dangerous monster”.
Several iconic characters known to the lore like Man-Thing, Bloodstone, and the titular werewolf will be featured in this special episode. The star cast for the same brings Laura Donnelly (playing Elsa Bloodstone) and Gael Garcia Bernal (playing Jack Russell/ “Werewolf”) on board.
Fantastic Four
While the cast of the much-foreshadowed title is still confined to the realm of rumors, the D23 Expo marked the return of Matt Shakman to the MCU as Fantastic Four‘s director. Slated for its release on November 8, 2024, the movie is bound to unleash its secrets locked away in Pandora’s Box in time.
Captain America: New World Order
Anthony Mackie is being reinstated as the eponymous hero as he will be leading the mix on his own for the first time. Julius Onah is helming the director’s vision for the fourth installment of the Captain America series.
Not much has been put forth regarding the plot of the movie except the re-introduction of an actor well known for his presence in The Incredible Hulk (2008), Tim Blake Nelson. This time around, however, he will be seen as The Leader and will be playing the villain, and is “delighted” to be a “part of (Marvel’s) cinema history”
Carl Lumbley and Danny Ramirez are also set to reprise their roles from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier as Isaiah Bradley and Joaquin Torres respectively.
Armor Wars
Don Cheadle’s Armor Wars was originally announced back in 2022, yet thankfully the fans can now witness War Machine in all his glory. The TV series has been confirmed for a Disney+ release with 6 episodes. Its storyline will pick up right after the happenings of Secret Invasion.
Not much is known about what will follow, but we’re going to witness how Rhodey carries the legacy ahead after Tony Stark’s honorable exit from the lot.
Thunderbolts
Marvel’s own Suicide Squad is ready to fire. The most important aspect of the upcoming project is that it will be the first team-up venture since Avengers: End Game. The plot is still hidden in plain sight but the lineup is definitely star-studded with Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova leading the Thunderbolts.
The first look at the project reveals Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes, John Walker (played by Wyatt Russell), Taskmaster (Ola Kurylenko), Red Guardian (David Harbour), Ghost from Ant-Man and the Wasp (Hannah John-Kamen), and (Julie Louis-Dreyfus) as members of the team. This intriguing alliance will hit theatres on July 26, 2024.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
Evangeline Lilly and Paul Rudd are getting the band back together in Quantumania. Leaving no stones unturned, Peyton Reed, the director of the movie confirms that the new Ant-Man film will change the MCU world forever.
Kang the Conqueror will be seen in the flesh for the first time since his debut in the Loki series. The movie releases on February 17, 2023, and will finally display Kang’s ravaging spirit taking over the MCU.
Ironheart
Riri Williams is all set to be introduced as the new superhero in the midst. Led by Dominique Thorne playing the titular role, the Ironheart series will be coming out in 2023. It’s still in production in Atalanta at the moment and while the trailer isn’t out for the public yet, D23 teases the character working on the Ironheart armor.
The Marvels
The Marvels are united at D23 Expo- Carol Danvers/ Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), Kamala Khan/ Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani), Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris). Only the three were there at the Expo, accompanied by their director Nia DaCosta. The movie will land in theatres on July 28, 2023. Some other cast members of the project are Park Seo-joon, Zawe Ashton, Lashana Lynch, Samuel L. Jackson, and more.
The movie will pick up right from the Ms. Marvel post-credits scene, wherein Kamala and Danvers seemed to have switched positions across space. More will be revealed as we head closer to the date.
Echo
The exclusive D23 Echo footage boasts the spinoff led by Alaqua Cox as Echo herself. Vincent D’Onofrio’s notorious Kingpin is also well alive and sporting an eyepatch.
Other featuring appearances in the series include that of Charlie Cox’s Daredevil, Zahn McClarnon as Echo’s father, and more. Significantly enough, the series will celebrate the presence of an all-rounded indigenous cast which will grace our screens in 2023 on Disney+.
Daredevil: Born Again
Set to be a reboot of the Daredevil series, Charlie Cox will be taking back his role as the titular hero and the lawyer we all seem to love, Matt Murdock. The D23 Expo had both him and Vincent D’Onofrio (Kingpin) coming out on stage to speak about the 18-episode season of Born Again.
Loki Season 2
The sequel of the Tom Hiddlestone Loki series is still in the early stages of development but the actor has already given it away that the entire cast will be coming back for the show. While details are still kept under wraps, we’re happy to have our God of Mischief back on set.
While most trailers and first looks of the new Marvel era have been reserved exclusively for the ones who attended the D23 Expo in person, they’re bound to surface on the internet soon enough. Check out Marvel Studios’ official Twitter account for more updates.
