The Mysterious Benedict Society Season 2 Episode 8 Review: All Ends Well in this Emotional Finale

The Mysterious Benedict Society Season 2 Episode 8 concludes the second chapter of the gifted orphans on a fitting note. The series of adventures finally come to end for now, with Dr Curtain and Mr Benedict’s emotional encounter. Moreover, the latest instalment of the feel-good drama fantasy is titled A Two-Way Street, where Tony Hale serves as one of the producers.

The complete cast of the show includes MaameYaa Boafo as Rhonda, Ryan Hurst as Milligan, Mystic Inscho as Reynie Muldoon, Seth Carr as Sticky, Emmy DeOliveira as Kate Wetherall, and Marta Kessler as Constance Contraire, Tony Hale as Dr Curtain/Mr Benedict and Kristen Schaal as Number Two. Furthermore, Christopher Baffa remains the cinematographer for the finale, while Hillary Wills heads the editing department.

The Mysterious Benedict Society Finale resumes with the kidnapping of Dr Curtain and leads into the introduction of some new characters in the form of Number Two’s family. The resourceful assistant takes the help of her mother, in order to hide from the henchmen, and reignites some bittersweet back and forth.

The sibling drama continues between Mr Benedict and Curtain after the latter goes into a deep form of paralysis, as a side effect of the happiness formula. Thereby forcing a form of caring panic inside the twin and enabling him to reveal his true feelings for his brother. Moreover, the secret society head also breaks the false character and exposes his plan to melt his mean yet caring sibling.

On the kid’s front, we get to see a slight western-ish sort of standoff in the finale, when the fight between the two sides breaks out. However, it doesn’t come to a full-throttle action sequence and ends on the usual feel-good trajectory of the show.

The adults get the better part of the finale, while the kids finally take the back seat. Even though I am convinced that this was the best episode of the series, I think this grand victory deserved a cracking celebration.

More than anything, I was wholeheartedly attached to the fate of Constance in the series, and I am glad for the positive outcome. I think fans of the show might have become more emotional after the brutally honest ten-year-old’s post-comma sentences, than the complete ending itself.

There is no doubt that the season has outdone its first attempt, and has also been successful in replicating an innocent fantasy world where no one gets into serious harm. I have a strong gut feeling that it’s one of those shows, that grows even more after its run.
