The Elixir Ending Explained

The film opens with a man breaking into a circumcision ceremony and causing pandemonium. And we immediately jump five hours before this incident. Pak Sadimin and his family are getting ready for a get-together, and a fight invariably breaks out when Sadimin refuses to sell their company, Wani Waras, as they had previously planned, after he creates a miracle elixir that seemingly turns him younger. We also learn that Sadimin has married his daughter, Kennes’s best friend, Karina, which is a point of contention between the two young women.

However, there’s no time to dwell on personal issues as Sadimin’s elixir is slowly turning him into a zombie, and things take a turn for the worst right in front of them. As he tries to eat everyone in front of him, he bites one of his staff and tries to kill Bambang, but he eventually shoots him through the head with a toy gun. Eventually, chaos ensues as everyone other than the family members turns into zombies, and the family soon makes a run for it, but they are separated into two groups.

Eventually, Rudi is bitten by the zombies, and Karina and Raihan try to save themselves from him and eventually run into Ningsih. From there, the two groups wonder how to meet one another while the zombie horde grows bigger and bigger.

How does the family save themselves from the zombies?

Rahman, Bambang, and Kennes blast fireworks to get the zombies to run away from the police station where they are trapped, but they are eventually overrun by zombies while Karina, Raihan, and Ningsih are trapped in the latter’s house, and there, too, the zombies start to flood in. Surprisingly, as it starts to rain and thunder roars, the zombies get confused and distracted, and this gives everyone a window to escape.

However, they make one bad decision after another, and as the rain stops, they are again attacked by the zombies. The women eventually find their way to each other and take a truck to find Bambang and Rahman. Unfortunately, Bambang is pinned under the truck, and Ningsih and Rahman are eventually bitten.

Bambang, as a last resort, lights all of the fireworks and causes a fire, eventually burning all the zombies. Kennes, Raihan, and Karina get out of the station, but just outside, Kennes realises that she, too, is infected. Eventually, Karina and Raihan get away on a bike while Kennes distracts the zombies and eventually takes her life.

Can the outbreak be stopped?

No, the outbreak can’t be stopped as the herbal medicine is distributed everywhere, and while the countryside will be overtaken by the zombies already present. That’s made clear in the last scene as Sadimin’s family, taking the medicine, slowly start to turn, restarting the process once again.
