The Apothecary Diaries Season 2 Episode 10 Recap

The episode kicks off with the arrival of new attendants for Lady Gyokuyou, who is expecting her second child. These women are specifically chosen from her hometown, as they would be better equipped to thwart any assassination attempts. In a humorous turn of events, Maomao is asked to move back to her original bedroom, but she firmly declines. She finds the storeroom much more to her liking, as it allows her to carry out her experiments undisturbed.

This time, however, Maomao faces an entirely different challenge. She is reluctantly dragged along to a gathering by one of Gyokuyou’s attendants. But this isn’t just any ordinary get-together as it’s a storytelling session where both seasoned and newly appointed attendants share horror tales for amusement. As each person takes a turn, they tell their story and then extinguish a candle.

When Maomao’s turn arrives, she delivers a horror story unlike any other. Instead of supernatural frights, she casually describes the gruesome acts of grave robbers who dissect corpses without hesitation. Her unsettling tale is quickly cut short.

Today’s episode starts with Jinshi asking to take Maomao back to service him for a few days. At first, Gyokuyou was not really interested in letting Maomao go and even teased Jinshi for not calling her by her name. But it seems that Jinshi has been invited to a hunting party, and to stay extra safe on the trip, he requires Maomao’s assistance. After that, they leave for the hunting competition, and this is where things become interesting.

It is apparent that the host of the hunting party, Shishou, who also happens to be the father of Loulan, has actually invited the brother of the king or Jinshi. Maomao doesn’t know about Jinshi’s true identity yet, so she is confused as to why he is being treated so importantly. On top of that, Jinshi is being extra careful to not showcase his face or eat or drink anything that has been given to him at the party. This is because there are constant threats to his life, and he cannot risk doing anything when he is not at the palace.

One might think that this much preparation was not needed, but later, we see how this actually helps Jinshi to stay alive. Assassins targeted his life even here, and they shot at Jinshi while he was talking with Maomao. Thankfully, Jinshi managed to escape with Maomao because of his quick thinking. But things do not go that well because they fall right into a waterfall.

Today’s episode also showcased some heart-stopping romantic moments that fans would love. Jinshi and Maomao do not really show affection, but here, the situation forces them to be closer. How they will escape from this problem is completely up to their luck.

I love today’s episode and think it really captured the dynamic of the relationship between Jinshi and Maomao very well. Jinshi is also planning to tell her the truth about his lineage, and I think that’s a great idea. He should come clean to her before she gets to know about it from someone else.
