Once Upon a Small Town episode 2 starts with Ja-young looking at her old book and remembering when Ji-yul had told her that they would be secret friends – she’s annoyed by the fact that he doesn’t seem to remember her. Meanwhile, Ji-yul gets up with a backache and wonders whether he will be able to do his morning routine. Right on cue, he finds some clothes and an old pair of shoes and goes on a run.
Unfortunately, all the villagers flock around him, ruining his concentration and testing his patience. When he comes back home, he finds Seon-dong inside and tries to tell him not to go inside other people’s houses without permission. That discussion doesn’t go too well for him, unfortunately.
At the vet clinic, Ji-yul is further annoyed at there being no coffee and the fact that he has to perform vaccinations on pigs that day. Meanwhile, Ja-young seems like she really wants to go for that vaccination, if only to meet Ji-yul.
After some brief cardio, Ji-yul is absolutely shocked to find the number of pigs that he has to vaccinate. It’s not an easy feat, but they do it done with each other’s help. Meanwhile, Ji-yul asks Ja-young whether someone who looks like him ever did something bad to her, and she sarcastically replies that they did, and then he forgot about it.

Afterwards, Ji-yul’s eyes light up when Ja-young mentions going to the cafe. He follows her there and meets Lee Sang-hyeon, the owner of the cafe and the peach farm. They seem to hit it off, but Sang-hyeon’s attempts at being close to him are cut short rather helplessly. Work, however, doesn’t seem to end for poor Ji-yul, whose next course of action is to take care of a baby goat with colic.

In the meantime, Ja-young tries to pacify scared villagers whose money is being stolen by the thief. After they drop the old woman back home, Ja-young gets called over to Ji-yul’s house by Seon-dong, who apparently saw the burglar inside the house. Ji-yul gets there just as she opens the door from the outside, and they both tiptoe inside to see whether there’s anyone in.
They do finally find and catch the guy after some struggle and a lot of broken glass, and Ji-yul’s attempts at being tough get thrown out of the door as he is forced to take Ja-young’s hand.
Once Upon a Small Town Episode 2 Review
There’s something so charming about Once Upon a Small Town that even though you’ve seen this story before, you’d want to watch it. The second episode of the drama is rather sweet and nice, and although the villagers are rather nosy, they are really nice to watch.
As Ji-yul comes to terms with this culture shock between Huidong and Seoul, you get on his team and watch him overcome these mental obstacles and find ways to adapt to his new surroundings. Ja-young’s constant popping up everywhere is entertaining, and she’s a pleasant sight to witness.
All in all, Once Upon a Small Town episode 2 is rather watchable and thoroughly enjoyable, and although the jokes don’t always land, they are rather pleasant.
Once Upon a Small Time is streaming on Netflix.
