Siren Survive the Island Review: Take the Island or It Takes You!

Siren Survive the Island is a reality show that shows strength, bravery and victory. So when the first episode rolls on your screen, it does not waste much time to establish what the show is here for. In the series, all the contestants, 24 in total, who belong to different work areas such as the police world, the world of sports and more are tasked to live (or more like ‘survive’) the ‘Fire Island’ aka the Island of Fire.

So when we see the contestants being introduced and immediately thrown in a pool of mud to perform a task, it is actually not in vain but, to help them decide where they want to stay on the island or as the show calls it- the base they will live in and protect to survive. Based on their fulfilment of the first task or who arrives when the base is distributed.

The format of the show only goes on to get interesting from hereon. The 24 contestants are divided into a team of six. These teams and their members are going to have to survive the island for seven days. In the seven days that they live on the Fire Island, each day will be a battle of its own. Emotional battles and struggles, you say? Yes, that but, also the ones where they have to strategize and fight.

On a broad scale, there are two- one that is going to occur in the battle arena. And, it sounds exactly the way it reads. There is another and, more dangerous one, which is the base battle that includes hiding your team flag in your base while you also attack the opponents’ base houses to look for their flags. Whichever team is able to acquire the most number of base flags, will be the winner by the end. There are also individual flags given to the members that they need to hide and, that getting discovered leads to that person’s elimination.

The siren in the name of the show title and in the show is the big catch. It refers to the siren that can buzz off at any time to get everyone in action. It is an indicator of the challenges to begin which means the contestants to always be alert.

Siren Survive the Island: Final Verdict

The way the game is laid out is really cool and unique. It reminds one of how different Real World was, which is another South Korean reality show in the set of reality shows that always ends up focusing on dating and drama. This one started off differently, although the drama aspect might steadily slip out.

Overall, Siren Survive the Island has been a fun watch so far. The contestants are very smart and have been quick to make connections, form alliances and also detect the problematic ones in the lot. Where they head from here next is something to wait for.

The first five episodes of Siren Survive the Island are now streaming on Netflix. You can watch the sixth episode scheduled to arrive on the platform on June 6, 2023.

  1. A few things wrong here: there are 6 reams of four not divided into teams of 6. They do all have their own flags, but they don’t hide them, just the base flag is hidden. The other flag is worn on the person’s back and if it is taken they aren’t eliminated, they just have to sit out the rest of that battle. They are back in the game when the base battle ends. The only ones eliminated are the ones who failed to protect their base flag. Makes a big difference in how the show works.
