Adventure Made In Abyss Season 2 Episode 2

There is something extremely primal about each episode of Made in Abyss. It is the feeling of not knowing what is going to happen at any given moment that fuels most of the tension and excitement that the show is so well known for. This episode was just one of many examples of the genius of the world created by Akihito Tsukushi. There is magic in this world that would be hard to replicate by anyone other than the extremely creative. The Abyss by itself is one of the best things to exist in anime, period.

One of the best parts of season 1 of the show was going down each of the first five layers and taking a look at the flora, fauna, and everything in between that made those torturous places their home. As the curse of the Abyss grew, so did the danger presented to our protagonists, who are still supposed to be kids. The Abyss became more hostile and deadly by the second, but it also became more beautiful and breathtaking to experience. One could almost imagine what made Riko want to take such risks.

ANimal Made In Abyss Season 2 Episode 2

Made In Abyss Season 2 Episode 2 was our first look at the newest and most dangerous layer so far, which is also, by extension, the most beautiful layer that we have yet laid our eyes upon. The Golden City Of The Scorching Sun isn’t a reach of a title, as the ruined city inside the sixth layer of the Abyss is visible even from afar. That is such a fantastic choice for the sixth layer as it evokes the feeling of familiarity while still raising questions such as if an entire civilisation actually lived inside the second most dangerous place to be in the world.

The food hunt in every layer is also a grounding moment as no matter how deep you get inside the Abyss and how dangerous everything becomes, Reg, Riko, and Nanachi always manage to have a moment of calm to enjoy Riko’s hand-cooked delicacies. However, the peace was short-lived this time as this layer’s threat reared its ugly head and turned out to be one the most treacherous and perilous yet. Escape seems to be impossible at this moment.

The production was tremendous as usual, as we have already discussed the merits of how the sixth layer was presented. However, no discussion of Made In Abyss can be complete without complimenting the music at least once, and be prepared to hear that in every review until this season is over. Made in Abyss Season 2 Episode 2 brought back a lot of classic tracks from the first season, and hearing them once again evoked a strong sense of nostalgia for someone like myself who has listened to the OST hundreds of times over. Seriously, this is never going to grow old.

Verdict

Made in Abyss Season 2 Episode 2 was another terrifying outing that evoked a primal horror that few other shows can even hope to replicate. This show is in a class of its own.
