Lafangey Review
The job market is a hellscape right now, with nothing but hopelessness as the world moves towards another recession. We all know this, but the ground realities of the Indian middle class come with their own challenges, with societal pressures becoming the cherry on top.
Lafangey follows three young men who, like the title suggests, are jobless. With the future looking dim and their families putting pressure on them to do something with their lives, the three take drastic measures to better their circumstances, only for things to get a bit out of hand. Chaitanya, Rohan, and Kamlesh’s friendship, as it usually goes in these shows, is what keeps the series together and adds a sweetness to the stress that is the realities of our lives.

The series is a moving watch. The slice of life feel makes you want to explore more about these three young men, and the way the story unfolds is believable and endearing. It’s also stressful at times, especially when the three make some very questionable decisions. But it’s their character arcs that make the series watchable, giving us something to hold on to.

I found the characters themselves to be quite sweet. Despite the terrible choices, they are kind and likeable people whom you feel like rooting for. I mean, we all make mistakes, and all three of them are a bit disillusioned at first in the big, bad world full of responsibilities, but thankfully, they bounce back in a way which feels genuine and emotional.

A big part of the series is also the protagonists’ relationship with their own families. Everyone has some problem or another at home, and it’s interesting to see them work through their differences. As an insider looking in, you relate to these struggles because somewhere along the way, we have all gone through something similar. Understand your parents and their helplessness comes from a place of your own experiences, and that’s showcased quite well in the show.
Harsh Beniwal, Anud Singh Dhaka and Gagan Arora are sweet as Kamlesh, Chaitanya and Rohan. I mean, they have their issues, but the series never fails to remind us that these are kids making mistakes and learning along the way. All three of them play their roles effectively and bring out an innocence that makes them the characters worth rooting for.
Final Thoughts

Lafangey is an enjoyable series that doesn’t fail to touch your heart in the most unexpected of ways. It does get a bit annoying sometimes, but the series doesn’t fail to remind us of our childhood in more ways than one. Although I found one of the plot points to be excessive, I enjoyed the series as a whole, regardless. All in all, this one’s quite feel-good.
