Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 2 Review: Enigmatic World of Sorcery Unveils Intriguing Secrets

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 2 Review: The second episode of the anime series premiered on July 13, 2023. Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 (呪術廻戦 or Sorcery Fight) much-anticipated anime of this season, is finally out, and the fans cannot keep calm. Directed by Sunghoo Park, the show is animated under MAPPA Studio. With Sayaka Koiso and Tadashi Hiramatsu designing the characters, Yoshimasa Terui is the sole composer of the series. Tatsuya Kitani performed the opening theme, Where Our Blue Is (青のすみか), while Soushi Sakiyama performed the ending theme, Light (燈).

The anime is scheduled for two cours, the first five episodes will adapt the manga’s Hidden Inventory arc, and the eighteen other episodes will showcase the Shibuya arc. Licensed under Crunchyroll, the episodes will be available with English subtitles, and the dubbed version will be released later on.

Based on the manga series of the same name by Gege Akutami, the story follows high school student Yuji Itadori as he joins a secret organization of Jujutsu Sorcerers in order to kill a powerful Curse named Ryomen Sukuna, of whom Yuji becomes the host. However, the new season will consist of various aspects of the story which the audience has been wondering about. Each episode has a runtime of 20-25 minutes.

If you have read the manga, the episode will be just like reliving those chapters again. However, it will be equally enjoyable for the ones who are strictly only following the manga series. With picturesque sequences and heavy dialogue scenes, the second episode has certainly raised the bar to new standards.

The episode wastes no time in introducing the central character of the arc, Riko, the Star Plasma Vessel, who is in grave danger. She is one of the most important person in the Jujutsu world but it cannot be overlooked how she is still just a child wanting to see the world with her own eyes. But due to her commitment to merge with Tengen, it is important for her to leave behind her life, family and friends.

Riko is accompanied by Kuroi, her caretaker. At first look, she seems rather harmless, but she possesses amazing fighting skills and displays it in time. She is dedicated to serving Riko at all costs and saving her from the ones trying to harm her. Moreover, she is the only family Riko has ever known throughout her life.

The lead protagonists, Gojo and Geto come in a pair. Those two act as though they are co-joined at the hip and never lose sight of each other. Their personalities are similar and complementary to each other as well. I mean, there are only a few who can put up with Gojo’s antics, right? We already got a taste of how powerful Gojo and Geto are from Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 and Jujutsu Kaisen 0, respectively. However, it is definitely both fascinating and weird to watch the two sworn enemies being so close to each other.

Needless to say, the animation has surpassed every expectation there was. From detailed character design to intricate action sequences, MAPPA Studio has yet again delivered. Moreover, combining the battle scenes with uplifting background music is the cherry on the cake. The most notable aspect is the creator’s ability to narrate the complicated and serious moments with such ease that they can be understood by everyone.
