When Yak, the middle sister of 7 siblings, gets possessed by a malevolent entity, the oldest brother, Yak, takes it upon himself to save his sister from the clutches of evil, risking his life in the process.

The horror film, 121 minutes long, is based on Tee Yod by Krittanon. Death Whisperer 2 was released on October 10, 2024, while the Death Whisperer 3 is expected to release on October 8, 2025.

The low-budget horror film Death Whisperer is a lot of everything that we have come to hate watching when it comes to the supernatural genre. Riddled with odd choices and plot holes, the movie is a thrilling ride into a goofy train wreck that is only made worse the more we get into it! When the movie starts, we get a sweet look into the lives of these seven siblings who have quite a tight bond with each other. Although their father is a strict man, they stand up for each other when required and it’s nice to see the seven of them getting together to protect each other.

It’s this bond between the siblings that makes this movie watchable. All seven of the cast members do a great job of nailing their paper-thin roles as their characters really have nothing much to do other than react to strange noises. Their bonds look genuine and they look scared through the horrible ordeal that they go through. Thailand’s heartthrob Nadech Kugimiya looks fantastic and plays the part of the big bro well as he looks quite dependable.

There are some moments in the movie that are genuinely creepy. Sure, there is hardly any scare, but it does manage to creep us out from time to time, especially in that corn maze sequence. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the special effects, but the practical stuff is well done and leaving our gallant Yak to face off against the malevolent entity alone makes for a few moments of genuine fear.

However, it’s everyone’s decisions that leave us questioning their characters and the point of everything. The fact that your sister has disappeared and someone is trying to break into your house doesn’t seem to deter the boys from getting drunk out of their minds for some reason. There are many other instances of everyone making the stupidest of decisions throughout the length of the runtime, leaving us frustrated. At one point I had given up trying to sympathise with them because none of them seemed to be competent enough to keep themselves alive.

Unfortunately, though, even horrible decisions cannot take away from the sheer lack of scares in Death Whisperer. And, no. I don’t believe that its low budget should be a deterrent to scare us out of our minds. But this Thai movie doesn’t even try. It’s the same stuff over and over again, with some disturbing imagery and a lot of loud noises to boot. Things like this really don’t work anymore, considering how saturated the industry is with such storylines. But, here we are with some great practical effects and some stinky gore but without the storyline to hold it all together.

Final Thoughts

This Thai horror film is a rather forgettable affair that delivers no thrills or chills. The scares are few and far between although it is able to gross us out from time to time. With impressive performances, it’s a shame that the movie isn’t able to keep itself together and ends up losing itself to fragmented storytelling, a cliched plot and a myriad of plotholes that will leave you questioning the validity of every statement that is made.
