Bucchigiri Episode 2 Review: One Puch Love

Bucchigiri Episode 2 Review: Another interesting episode has dropped from this underrated anime. Read ahead to find out more.

Bucchigiri Episode 2 Overview

Bucchigiri?! is a new anime series and an original anime from MAPPA, the studio behind popular shows like Attack on Titan and Jujutsu Kaisen. It’s set to premiere this January, so it’s just around the corner!

The series is described as a return to the delinquent/Yanki genre of anime, which was popular in the late 90s and early 2000s with shows like Cromartie High School and Great Teacher Onizuka.

Under the direction of Hiroko Utsumi and the story of Taku Kishimoto, the series also consists of the musical composition of Michiru Ōshima, while character designs are by Takahiro Kagami.

The opening theme, “Sesame” by Kroi, sets the tone, and the ending theme will be Love je t’aime (らぶじゅてーむ)” by Mahiru Coda (甲田まひる).

I have tried my best to keep the review as spoiler-free as possible, but there are certain elements that I had to mention to give proper feedback.

Bucchigiri Episode 2 Review and Recap: No Luck With Love

This episode opens with Arajin being knocked down and sent flying by Marito’s punch. Matakara saves him and takes an unconscious Arajin to his house.

Arajin has no idea that his punch literally made Marito fall in love with him, and now he wants to recruit Arajin into his crew. On top of that, Marito’s bro-con sister, Mahoro hates that her brother is simping over Arajin, who is totally in love with her. So this is how a very bizarre circumstance arises in Arajin’s life where he just cannot catch a break.

Another episode dropped from Bucchigiri, and this one as well is hard to figure out. The premise is interesting, but the flow of the story feels disjointed, with too many things happening at the same time without much explanation. Also, this anime is definitely fujo bait, as there are plenty of boy love moments without actually going toward the BL direction. If you are into that stuff, you will definitely get many ideas about your ships.

Apart from that, the fight section is truly remarkable, where we see very well-choreographed hand-to-hand combat scenes. The fight between Matakara and Jabashiri was one of the most impressive things we have seen in this anime till now. We still need more info about the characters for them to be more likable, and hopefully, the tone will shift more towards action in the future.

Other than that, we do get some comedy, which is funny at times. The inner conflicts between the characters are also engaging to see, and even the ending scene promises more disputes to come, so I am excited for the next part.

What I would love more in the next episode is a bit more info on the Honki people. The origin of Senya, and for what purpose does he want to merge with Arajin? Does he have an ulterior motive or he has a noble goal for which he will need a host? We do see him regret merging with his current host, who wishes to gain power only so he can lose his virginity. I hope Arajin will get character development and will get past his fanboying and become stronger.

Verdict

This anime has the potential to be a great fighting anime, it just needs to work on its scatteredness. I am hopeful that this can become a good show, so I’m willing to give it time and see for myself whether I’ll continue this or not.
