Episode 3 focusses mostly on Jung-pal juggling with his multiple debts while Moo-sik teaches him a lesson. Jung-pal starts gambling after getting caught up with the Chinese junket and trying to pay off his dues to them. Seeing his plummeting trajectory and how’s trapped himself in a debt of 80 million pesos, Moo-sik sends him back to Korea. Sang-gu, however, lets him in on the gravity of the situation, conveying that Jung-pal won’t be able to come out of this unscathed if left alone.

He uses his contacts with the Chinese gang, one of whom had even saved his life earlier, and ultimately reaches out to their chief as well and promises him that the debt will paid off soon. Requesting him and his gang to back off, in turn, gaining some time for Jung-pal to pay off his debt, Moo-sik helps him out as a brother.

However, even following his return back to the Philippines, Jung-pal doesn’t quite grasp the extent of all that Moo-sik has done for him. He even contacts Chi-young, his old partner now running a restaurant, and vouches for Jung-pal to make it easier for him to get a loan within their circle of friends. Words are obviously lost him, and ultimately, Moo-sik resorts to take action, seeing how unserious Jung-pal is.

In the meantime, Seung-hoon and Mark make up, and the former decides to confide in his partner about the shootout case. Following up on leads, he reveals that Moo-sik is his prime suspect for the case of So-jung and Philip’s murder. However, since it’s all speculation at this point, he wants to continue with his investigation and gather enough evidence to prove his hypothesis. Asking for back-up from Mark, he hopes to have some support on his end.

He pays a visit to the same money transfer joint that So-jung had approached to send out the money to her mother in Korea before her death. The same employee greets him, but pushes him back from conducting any sort of investigation at the scene. Turning to Mark for assistance, Seung-hoon finally gets the team’s support and the acquires the search warrant needed to get the video footage out.

After watching it, his doubts become a dreaded reality as he traces the employee’s call to Moo-sik’s number on the same day of the killings, post So-jung’s transfer. Eventually, he crosses paths with Sang-gu again and tries to get some information from him, but the latter catches on early and realises that the detective is trying to pin all the crimes on his boss, and walks away.

Over a heartening meal with Mark’s family, Seung-hoon bonds with them. Post that scene, he sits down with Mark and shares his thoughts with him over beer. His partner reveals how deep Moo-sik’s connections go, tying him up with the top-notch dog of the Philippines – the drug lord – Daniel.

Big Bet Season 2 Episode 3 Ending

The final scenes of the episode again see the Chinese junket tailing Jung-pal despite Moo-sik having given his word. He contacts their boss and demands them to switch lanes. It works for the time being, but Moo-sik has his own score to settle with Jung-pal. Teaching him a lesson about the difference between ‘low-life bums’ and actual businessmen, he finally gets him to pay off a part of his debts to Chi-young.

Seung-hoon tries his best to piece the puzzle and see how Daniel and Moo-sik fit on the same page. Getting hold of So-jung’s phone from the evidence locker, he calls her mother, but fails there too as she can’t help him out with any of his questions due to her dementia.

Lastly, the infamous and much-talked about murder finally takes place as a mercenary walks into Seok-jun’s consulting firm office in broad daylight and shoots him without giving it a second thought. The episode ends with Seok-jun lying dead, and his blood splattered on the floor.

Big Bet Season 2 Episode 3 Review

Jung-pal was not only testing Moo-sik’s patience, but also all of ours with his behaviour. Yet, thankfully, we finally got a glimpse into his life, and though he’s been one of the more likeable characters in the series till now, he’s barely been singled out in the previous episodes.

Seung-hoon and Mark’s partnership shined brightly in this episode, and personally, that’s what I want to see more of in the future episodes as well. Furthermore, Cha Moo-sik’s last few lines of teachings forwarded to Jung-pal put up a mirror to his own identity, shedding light on why he’s truly feared by the people around him. This also proves that it’s not just mere fear that people feel for him, but also actually respect him. It just depends on which category they fall into. While friends and family need not be intimidated by him, and can count on him to back them up, rivals and enemies, on the other hand, are a different case all together.
