Fashion’s biggest night and its latest edition’s best Met Gala 2023 looks were all about honouring the late maestro of the couture industry, Karl Lagerfeld. The annual in-vogue extravaganza was held on May 1, 2023, and again helped fundraise for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City. The invite-only gala’s theme this year was ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty’, and boy did celebrities from all fields of the entertainment arena walk in, sporting beauties in galore.
As always, the most-talked-about aspect of the evening is the trail of gowns, suits and a plethora of new interpretative fashion that often harks back to the glorious art history while looking forward to the future. Artists like Cardi B, Jennie Kim, Jackson Wang, Alia Bhatt and many others walked the red carpet, a champagne carpet like the Oscars, while boasting their best comprehension of the assignment at hand – channelling the German fashion designer’s identity and mark in the biz.

Cardi B
The most charming rose of all! Cardi B’s Thom Brown look sought perfect inspiration from Karl Lagerfeld’s signature style, and also exuded latent Barbie-esque tones, bringing out one of the BEST serves of the night. From the silver wig, to the gloves, she stole the spotlight with her blooming attire. But, if that wasn’t enough, a second surprise made our way when she stepped out in a snappy pink pink that screams Cardi while also channelling slight hints of the pink ruffled gown wore by Lily-Rose Depp as the new face of Chanel No. 5 L’EAU, back in 2017.
Conan Gray
Oh, the pearl beads and dazzling back fingerless arm-length gloves! This Overdrive outfit (all puns intended) had us taking a double, triple (maybe even more) look at Conan. We couldn’t help but fall into the Crush Culture behaviour for this Heather shining on the red carpet.

Miranda Priestly has been proud of her ever since the beginning, because if there’s one thing about Hathaway that never changes, then it’s her ever-slaying fashion glam quotient. Although she brought the A-Game in her custom Versace fit, it almost looks like a modern retelling of Lagerfeld’s impressions with all the pearls and pins patching up the seamlessly embellished gown.
