A Life Too Short The Isabella Nardoni Case (Isabella O Caso Nardoni) has been directed by Claudio Manoel and Micael Langer. The Netflix documentary follows one of Brazil’s most famous cases involving the tragic death of a five-year-old girl. The documentary consists of archival footage from the Nardoni Case trial as well as interviews of investigative officers, journalists and also Isabella’s mother, Ana Carolina Oliveira. It is based on the book by Ilana Casoy and Rogerio Pagnan.

The documentary is based on content reviewed by the team consisting of 6,000 pages from the trial and 118 hours of interview footage.

On the basis of the investigation carried out and the forensic reports obtained, Alexandre Nardoni and his wife Anna Carolina Jatobá were charged for the murder of Isabella. The trial began in 2010, almost two years after Isabella’s death. The couple also testified in front of the jury and both denied having murdered Isabella. The documentary mentions that the five-day trial ended with Alexandre being sentenced to 31 years, 1 month and 10 days of imprisonment and his wife to 26 years and 8 months for Isabella’s death.

The film reveals that after their conviction in the case, in June 2023, Anna Carolina Jatobá was granted probation and left prison to serve the rest of her sentence in an open regime. As for Alexandre, since 2019 he has been serving his sentence on parole with the benefit of occasional furloughs. The documentary reveals that members of the Nardoni family refused to give interviews regarding the case.

Isabella’s mother Ana Carolina Oliveira reveals in the documentary how needed a fresh start after her daughter’s tragic death and also the trauma caused by the trial that found her ex-husband guilty. Ana opens up about becoming a mother again and how emotionally challenging the pregnancy was for her given her past trauma.
