Every origin has its ending, and every relationship has a natural endpoint. Shikimori’s Not Just A Cutie Episode 12 is about a lot more than just an end. Let’s see how everything went down in this review.
Shikimori’s Not Just A Cutie Episode 12 Overview

Shikimori’s Not Just A Cutie, or Kawaii Dake Ja Nai Shikimori-san in original Japanese is a comedy, romance, and slice-of-life anime based on a manga written by Keigo Maki and serialized in Magazine Pocket. It is being brought to the medium of anime by Studio Doga Kobo, whose previous shows have included similar themes and appealed to a similar demographic as Shikimori-san. Plastic Memories and Monthly Girls’ Nozaki Kun are a part of Doga Kobo’s catalogue.
The series is being directed by Ryouta Itou, who has previously directed shows like My Senpai is Annoying and has done animation work in several others. This episode is also known as Kawaii Dake Ja Nai Shikimori-san Episode 12. You can read our review of the previous episode of the show right here!

Shikimori’s Not Just A Cutie Episode 12 Review- Sweet End

This was certainly an episode of the show. If there is any more to it is difficult to decide, especially since this was the final episode of the show that is going to be airing in a while. It was supposed to be the series finale, but the show ended up doing more of the same thing that it had been doing for the past three or so months. Granted, whatever it has been doing has been great and fun to watch, but one would expect more from a series finale than a regular episode. On that front, the episode wasn’t able to achieve much of anything.

It was a pretty generic setup, one that saw Izumi and Shikimori go out on a date to something that was supposed to resemble Tokyo Disneyland in the same warped technique as animes usually use to reference something that they are technically not allowed to. There were various rides and other attractions that you would expect to see in a place such as this, and our couple got to enjoy each others’ company in every one of them. However decent an idea that is, how does that differ from their previous dates to the theatre or the summer festival?

There were a lot of sweet moments littered throughout, as one would expect, but these didn’t have as much of an impact when the realization of “this is all that is going to be in it” hit. Shikimori’s Not Just A Cutie Episode 12 had a decent idea, culminating in a physical act of intimacy that usually puts an end to shows like this. However, it wimped out in the end to only broach the subject without executing it properly. It still worked because of the nature of the relationship that Izumi and Shikimori share, but not that well.

Teen love is a somewhat misunderstood and underrated concept in general. Many people proclaim it to be cringeworthy and cheesy to listen to such promises of longevity and grandeur coming out of the mouths of someone they presume to be not old enough. Maybe it is, but that’s what it is supposed to be. The sooner you are able to learn what you like and dislike about somebody, the more it helps you in the quest for finding the one which you would prefer to keep around. All that is to say, teen love is valid and wonderful, and this show showcases it very well.

In a similar vein, there were many cheesy lines in this outing that one could easily dismiss as the two adjectives I used before. They could certainly be better written, but they still managed to convey the feelings the characters were going for. Overall, this was a sweet episode that felt rather pointless at times because all it did well, the show had already achieved in some form earlier. This certainly wasn’t the strongest episode of the series, but it was good enough.
Verdict
Shikimori’s Not Just A Cutie Episode 12 was a mediocre finale that didn’t bring anything new to the table but was a decent watch nonetheless. So long, Shikimori san!
