The latest campy music video of the WakeOne boy group marks the nonet’s first comeback since their debut through the survival audition program Boys Planet. (ZB1) ZEROBASEONE Crush MV reactions on X (formerly Twitter) unveil a loaded, mixed bag of responses on social media as the fans of the boy group, known as ZEROSE, have been severely divided on certain takeaways from the brand-new title track of the music act’s second mini album, titled Melting Point.
Debuting in 2023 itself with its first mini album, Youth in the Shade, the group consists of 9 members – Kim Ji-woong, Zhang Hao, Sung Han-bin, Seok Matthew, Kim Tae-rae, Ricky, Kim Gyu-vin, Park Gun-wook and Han Yu-jin. With each member helming a certain official position, as allocated to the members of all K-pop groups, Zhang Hao has been listed as the “ZEROBASEONE Centre”.

Members billed as a unit’s “centre” are deemed to be the focus in terms of the band’s popularity and selling point. Notably, Hao also received a top ranking following the conclusion of the reality competition series Boys Planet and has been one of the most significant and popular members of the group since Day 1.
However, with the premiere of the Crush MV on November 6, 2023, the same day as the ZEROBASEONE Melting Point album’s release date, the fans have noticed a peculiar downfall regarding his contribution to the lead single. ZEROSEs hold ZB1’s managing label accountable for not maintaining an equitable distribution of lines and screen time for all group members. Do you also agree with this reasoning?
The hard-hitting first comeback’s titular track has been defined by its heavy bass-driven soundscape, and the pre-chorus has delivered what the fans are now referring to as the “pots and pans” music, highlighting the theme’s jarring out-of-place beats. Otherwise, the song has largely been accepted by the fans with open arms, who, as a force of habit, have again declared Crush as the “Song of the Year”. However, others also considered how the song could’ve been an even better banger if the “pots and pans” part hadn’t been included.

There’s a faction of ZEROSEs that have also gone back to reminiscing the wholesome goodness of the synth-pop title track of their debut album, In Bloom, which had been inspired by A-ha’s Take One Me. These fans believe that the group’s transition from their debut title song to the latest one hasn’t recorded a satisfactory journey. However, on the flip side, many have also loved this same essence of chaos concocted through ZEROBASEONE’s new music video and its cinematic randomness.
