You Would Do It Too Review: Thrilling and Thought Provoking

In this 2023 mystery-thriller miniseries, a botched armed robbery on a bus linking El Prat Airport with Manresa results in three robbers’ deaths and the rest to flee. Officers Garza and Quirós start to question the passengers on the bus who are eyewitnesses to the incident to get a description of the robbers while the case, having gone viral, becomes a point of contention as the common people side with the robbers.

This mystery-thriller that originally (surprisingly) came out on Disney+ in 2023, one can feel the tension rising from the first episode. Focusing on a botched robbery that goes rather horribly wrong for the robbers and involving a mystery man with an enticing aura, the series grips you to the thrill of the chase and keeps you enticed with a debate about morality in a complex situation such as this.

The uncertainty in the first two episodes, the secret pact between the passengers on the bus and the mystery behind the person who saved their lives make for great content. Viewers can’t help but wonder whether or not this mystery man deserves to get away scot-free because he saved 6 people’s lives or whether killing three people, regardless of the circumstance, deserves consequence. The series makes sure to include the audience in this debate, as you can’t help but wonder with all of the characters about what to do in such a situation. These moments are intense and thrilling and the series does a fantastic job of holding on to that thrill in every scene.

However, You Would Do It Too somehow loses steam after the first two episodes. As we (probably) identify the charismatic shooter, we go down a rather dreary and drawn-out path involving his backstory and the series loses steam for a bit. The backstory is probably necessary in a way, but it still doesn’t add to the tense atmosphere that the series had created in the first two episodes. The problem is also that we shift completely from the eyewitnesses to following around this mystery person and trying to nab him – it takes away the thrill of the chase and only leaves us to follow the detectives around as they try their best to be one step ahead of the suspect.

I also found the detectives to be rather inadequate in every way possible. With a past personal relationship hovering over their present behaviours, Fran and Rebeca are constantly bickering, with Rebeca trying to undermine Fran at every point. Fran, however, never really raises a voice, and gets steamrolled by his partner constantly. It doesn’t help that Rebeca is a hard-headed officer who doesn’t like to think that situations can have nuances to them and that everything isn’t black and white.

Thankfully, though, the series provides enough twists and turns to keep these annoyances at bay for most of its runtime. Although you start to lose interest sometimes, it makes sure to reel us back in quickly and leave us thrilled again and again by introducing interesting twists that will keep you hooked. The short runtime adds to the intrigue of the show and packs a lot of punches in a short runtime, leaving you to ponder on its themes while the action keeps you on the edge. The series also does a great job with its editing and cinematography, which adds to the intrigue and the anticipation.

Final Thoughts

You Would Do It Too is thoroughly enjoyable and twisty, with its moral and ethical questions keeping us on our toes and making us question our reality at every turn. The series has its moments of downtime that will truly test your patience, but there’s enough here to keep you engaged for most of the runtime, leaving you feeling a heaviness in your heart by the end. Do we get some well-deserved justice though? That’s for you to find out. And although there are moments where the series could’ve shone brighter, I found it to be a thoroughly entertaining and engaging watch, especially considering the runtime.
