You Season 3 Review

Ah, You. We are back again at this crazy, twisted Love story. If you thought toxic relationships couldn’t get any worse, you are in for a twist since now, Joe and Love have a child. Even though the child came as a surprise for us – a son instead of a daughter. Then you throw in some sleepless nights and poopy diapers; what could go wrong?

You season 3 is every part fascinating, creepy and scary as its first two seasons. It’s shocking how well the series keeps up with the horrifying pacing and the scary subject matter, although this time it is different yet the same. Joe has a new fixation this season, of course, but that’s not just the problem this season.

You season 3 also proceeds to tell us how much Joe thinks of himself to be the good guy in a scenario where Henry is the only good guy. He constantly talks about Love as if she is the only murdering psycho in his family. As if she’s the crazy spider holding their child hostage. This complete lack of self-actualization is something that has been present since the first season. However, it’s not something that has become as in-your-face as it is now – the irony of him pointing fingers is almost sickening.

I think that’s the most interesting part of You in general. Joe’s internal monologue has always been the best part of the series. It’s interesting to watch him justify himself and make assumptions regarding his interactions with others. It’s also shocking to watch how much Joe and Love work off of each other – their vibes with each other are spectacular. Anything more I say might count as a spoiler!

Apart from the stalking, which there’s a lot of, as usual, You season 3 is really darkly funny. Yes, the more you get used to watching Joe, the more you realise how truly dark and disturbing his world is. However, it has some genuine moments of humour that run deep throughout its runtime.

It is such a breath of fresh air every time I watch Victoria Pedretti and Penn Badgley together. They are just so good in You season 3. Their characters know each other like the back of their hands, and it’s evident in how great their chemistry is with each other. It’s amazing to watch them obsess over each other, their baby and their neighbours.

Summing up: You season 3

You season 3 is every bit of what you wanted out of the Joe Goldberg saga. Does Joe’s past come back to haunt him? How does he take care of his baby? What happens to his relationship with Love? It’s a tangled, delicious mess that you would want to unwrap as soon as physically possible. Also, Victoria Pedretti and Penn Badgley are worth every minute spent.

You is streaming on Netflix.
