Wistoria: Wand and Sword Episode 4 Recap

This episode dived deeper into the requirements for becoming a Magia Vende at Rigarden Magical Academy. To advance to the upper institute, students must complete at least 7,200 out of 12,000 total credits. Unfortunately, Will is far from reaching this goal, with only 5,405 credits and just one year left. This means his chances of promotion are slim. However, there’s one alternative path: the grand magic festival.
This prestigious event hosts various competitions where high-ranking mages from the tower’s four factions—Lightning Lord, Sacred Elf, Flame Emperor, and Icemaiden—scout new talent. Even students lacking the required credits can still advance if chosen by one of these factions. However, this is no easy feat, as participants must perform magic that impresses even the most seasoned high mages.

Will is uncertain about joining the competition, haunted by a past experience where he was falsely accused of cheating and faced severe criticism. Despite his reluctance, unforeseen circumstances push him to apply for the festival.
We also get introduced to three key contenders in Will’s class: Lihanna with 10,100 credits, Wignall with 10,075 credits, and Julius with 10,048 credits. Julius stands out for his overconfidence, ruthlessness, and disdain for anyone who isn’t a mage, especially dwarves and Will.
Wistoria: Wand and Sword Episode 5 Review And Recap

There have always been some similarities between Harry Potter and this anime, but today, it was a bit more glaring. The Grand Magic Festival is finally happening, where Will has promised to defeat Julius. The first game featured here was called The Sky Race, and it is a full-fledged copy of the quidditch game from Harry Potter. The only difference here is that Harry was riding brooms, and here they are riding Dragons.
Thankfully, we quickly move on from that and come to the main game of the event, which is the crown attack. But to participate in this crown attack, one team must have 21,000 combined credits, with three people joining in. Colette will obviously support Will, and hence, she will team with him, but they must appoint another person with a significant number of credits. Thus, Colette uses the fact that Sion has a crush on her and kind of tricks him into joining their team.

The battle starts, and contrary to what everyone thought, Will’s team is doing phenomenally. Not only are they defeating the obstructions that come their way, but they are also doing it effectively and as fast as possible. This is possible because of the support Colette is giving to Will with her Earth magic, plus, the magical items Will is using to fully utilise his physical prowess.
But, things quickly turn dark when Julius comes to cross his way, and finally, the main showdown begins. However, Sion, who has been following rules and Will without any complaints, finally shows his own agenda, and we get a very intense second half.

Verdict
This episode was genuinely really good, and apart from the part where you feel like watching an animated version of Harry Potter, things go well. The animation absolutely gets you mesmerised by the visual treat. Story-wise, things have not thickened yet, but hopefully, we will know more about the world itself in future.
The way things are turning out for Will, I think he will be scouted, and hence, he will be able to pass without any issues.
