Vinland Saga Season 2 Episode 1 is the first episode of the latest season of one of the most anticipated sequels of this year. Vinland Saga is an action, adventure, and drama series directed by Shuuhei Yabuta and based on an original manga written by Makoto Yukimura. The latest season is being animated by Studio MAPPA.
A tale set in the golden age of Vikings, Vinland Saga follows Thorfinn, son of the greatest warrior ever to set foot in the world, Thors. Even after Thors moves away from the violence he had been embroiled in since his youth, it finds him and his family anyways as he tragically lost his life to the same people he once deemed his fellow warriors. Thorfinn swears vengeance and vows to defeat the person who started it all and to find the fabled Vinland, a paradise somewhere west.
Season 1, or the prologue of the series, saw Thorfinn become a vassal of the newest king of England and Denmark, Canute. However, in a tragic turn of events, he was unable to avenge his dead father by killing Askeladd, as he tragically lost his life trying to save his homeland from being invaded by the Vikings. Thorfinn must now find a new purpose in life, one that doesn’t involve revenge and eating his life in a fruitless pursuit. It is time to see how Thorfinn grows as a person.

Chaos is the name of the game, as everything that we knew about the series as a whole changed with Askeladd’s death in the final episode of the first season. With Canute’s succession, Thorfinn finds himself out of a purpose in life and ostracised by everyone, as no one seems to look past him being a mindless warrior. It is a whole new world from when we last saw Thorfinn, as the new season will introduce many new plot elements and characters.

Besides Thorfinn and Canute, both of whose roles will have to be redefined in the series, the trailers and previews put a lot of emphasis on a new character who was revealed for the first time in the final moments of the first season. The character’s name is Einar, and his role in the series is deemed to be a main one. It will be interesting to see how he fits into the complicated dynamics of the show.
