As the last member of the K-pop septet to release his solo debut project out for the world, Kim Taehyung is ruling over the hearts of BTS ARMYs and non-fans alike as noticed in the long list of V Layover album reviews recorded on X (formerly Twitter). Releasing on September 8, 2023, Layover is BTS V’s first studio album consisting of 6 songs – Rainy Days, Blue, Love Me Again, Slow Dancing, For Us and Slow Dancing (Paino Version) – and it presents the South Korean singer’s new musical avatar that is especially disparate from his identity as a BTS member.
Produced by Frankie Scoca, Freekind and Jinsu Park under the banner of Big Hit Music (HYBE Labels), the album focusses on a full-on R&B sound with elements of pop mildly sprinkled on top. It reflects Taehyung’s musical preferences and tastes in the most creatively chill and laid-back way possible. The artist has also promised to drop music videos for each song on the tracklist, and some (Love Me Again and Rainy Days) videos had been pre-released ahead of the actual comeback date, whereas, the Slow Dancing MV dropped on the same day as the album release date, leaving us with the For Us and Blue videos to arrive later.

The former song among the last two mentioned here has particularly garnered a lot of love and affection as fans tweeted about instantly falling for its intro, that they also expect to go viral on TikTok soon. V’s baritone has yet again won the netizens over as they called his debut venture a “masterpiece”, while some even listed it at the top of their “comfort album” selections alongside RM’s Mono and Indigo, yet other sombre and grave musical additions to the list of BTS solo albums.
The latest music video release has also captured Taehyung’s dog, Yeontan, in an endearing light, further playing on the fans’ emotional heartstrings. A tweet even went on to highlight that this album is the whole and sole musical child of the BTS singer himself as it didn’t feature a single collaborative track with any other artist. Deserving the title of a “high class artist”, V’s album has hit people’s heart and soul hard with its lyrical and aesthetic warmth and beauty.
One should also note that despite being one of the most popular artists of a group that has achieved the status of being called a global phenomenon, Taehyung rather opted to musically express himself in the most vulnerable way possible through a debut album so touching and stirring instead of resorting to the mainstream choice of relying on the typical pop music sound. This is yet another factor that went a long way in touching the fans’ hearts, who’ve had nothing but appreciation to shower him and his “jazzy” album with.
