-Twinkling Watermelon Episode 5 Recap Contains Spoilers-
The episode begins with Eun-gyeol drowning in a nearby lake while he goes out on a picnic with his family. He screams for help but no one can hear him when ultimately his father comes to rescue. During a conversation, his father tells him that he lost his voice due to an accident and Eun-gyeol correlates it to the present. Eun-gyeol saving Yi-chan from the accident can result in him never losing his hearing capability.
The next day Eun-gyeol goes to Yi-chan’s school and competes with the school’s best mucision on a guitar battle. He made a bet with him that if he wins the battle, the guitarist has to join the band formed by Yi-chan along with the drummer and the pianist. They engage on an intense guitar one-on-one and Eun-gyeol ultimately wins the bet.

Yi-chan’s band is finally formed but there is another hurdle which he has to pass. The newest members do not want Yi-chan as the front man so they ask him to audition for the position. Since he does not know how to sing or play the guitar, Eun-gyeol agrees to teach him in exchange for Yi-chan studying hard and going to college. They both start working hard for the exams.
Meanwhile, Se-kyung left South Korea to study abroad for her further studies. But she returns back to the country again and changes her entire persona. She cuts off her hair and goes to the flea market to sell all her clothes. In the market, she meets Eun-gyeol who tells her that she should not have left Yi-chan stranded after challenging him to form a band and she feels bad about it.
Eun-gyeol decides to keep Se-kyung going away from the country but he finds out from his classmate. Defeated and sad he goes to the ice cream shop to work where the owner shows him the girl who left the ticket for him. He goes after her and accuses her of playing with his feelings and curses at her. He then finds out that she has a hearing impairment. As he is about to leave to apologise to her, Se-kyung arrives at the shop and the episode ends on that note.

Twinkling Watermelon Episode 5 Review: Final Thoughts
The new episode finally moves forward with the plot but it still remains very slow. The story loops around and it often feels stagnant at times. Although the series is inclusive of people with visual and hearing impairments, the plot often adds suggestive scenes where it showcases that not being handicapped will make one’s life better which is extremely abelist. It is high time for creators to write better stories without using differently abled people to express a cautionary tale.
