The Wages of Fear Overview
In this action-adventure film, two brothers, Fred and Alex, and a number of others are asked to bring back nitroglycerine within 24 hours after an old well with gas pockets catches fire, threatening to kill hundreds of innocent people. However, having to make a treacherous journey from one place to another through rebel-occupied lands, the journey won’t be easy.
The Wages of Fear Ending Explained
The movie starts with Alex and Fred’s introduction and their relationship – thanks to a plan of stealing a bunch of cash from one of Fred’s dead clients, Alex is caught by the police and imprisoned. Although Alex wasn’t interested in the job, thanks to his demolition expertise, Fred insisted on his coming, even promising for the job to be a simple one. Of course, that’s not how that worked out in reality.
In the present, with a country at war and getting more and more dangerous by the minute, Fred plans for Alex’s wife and child to flee the country along with a bunch of them but that plan gets put to a standstill when the oil well catches fire due to gas leakage and heat threatening the lives of the villagers nearby. To stop the fire from spreading, the representatives of the oil company send the head of security to the base and hire a team to get 100 kilos of nitroglycerine to stop the fire.
In order to get them to agree even further, the representative agrees to free Alex from prison in order to convince Fred and get his expertise in the process as well, promising to take care of Alex’s family in the meantime. Dedicated with renewed enthusiasm to save the villagers and get out of the country thanks to the $1 million that they are offering, Clara, Fred, Alex, Gauthier and a few others make the treacherous journey. Along the way, they meet several rebels who try to kill them but after coming up with clever ways to get rid of them, and with the use of violence as well, they get through the hurdles.
Along the way, they also lose several members of the team including Gauthier, who drives the truck off the road and to his demise after he betrays Fred. In the end, Clara, Fred and Alex reach the village with only one truck but enough explosives to stop the fire only for Anne to let the team know that there is no drilling team and that one of them has to drive the truck into the well to stop the fire. After witnessing Alex and his family together and to make up for his previous digressions, Fred makes the decision to do it himself without letting Alex know.
Alex is heartbroken by his brother’s decision along with Clara, but the plan does work, saving hundreds of innocent lives in the process.
