The Third Day is a drama miniseries starring Jude Law, Naomie Harris, Katherine Waterston, Emily Watson, Paddy Considine and Mark Lewis Jones, among others. The first part focusing on Jude Law’s character is called Summer. The last, starring Naomie Harris, will fall under Winter. There’s another part in between the two called Autumn which will feature a live event in London. These three segments will be interconnected with each other and will create a complete story at some point.
The Third Day Episode 2 Review:
The Third Day episode 2 is a very heavy episode. Also, the cinematography is so beautiful and haunting, it totally goes with the general vibe of the episode.
So, we pick up where we left off in the last episode. Sam wakes up groggy and in a very awkward situation, although later things return to normal. He gets close to Jess and they both share very intimate details about each other’s lives. The details are dotted along the length of the episode, and it’s riveting and heart-breaking at the same time. You realise that both of them are running away from things, and Osea might be the break that they need. These moments form the bulk of the episode, and the bond that they develop seems to be genuine, albeit rooted in grief.
Speaking of grief, The Third Day episode 2 has some of the most genuine description and discussion about grief that I have seen in a while. Jude Law and Katherine Waterston’s acting is so wonderful that you can’t help but resonate with what they are saying. It hits the nail on the head.
The episode also focuses on Osea’s very cult-like history, and talks about its own brand of Christianity. There’s a lot of information to unpack, and Jess’s description of the place and its history adds to the very creepy vibe of the place and people. There’s a general sense of fear and isolation in the place, even though the people seem to be nice (with Jess advocating in their favour). Beneath the surface of happiness and fun, there’s something more dangerous going on.
This episode is like a feverent dream. The cinematography is dark and subdued, and the colours all seem to be washed out. We are drawn to Osea’s uncanny charms just as much as Sam is, which is probably not a good idea. Just like an LSD-fuelled trip, The Third Day episode 2 gives us a sense of discomfort and mystery – It’s intoxicating.
The shots range from extreme closeups to extremely wide shots. However, both seem to just heighten the sense of claustrophobia. The extreme closeup shots are wonderful to watch, albeit very uncomfortable, and seem like you’re crossing the boundary and get into someone’s personal space. Additionally, with the acting across the table being so great and odd things happening one after the other, you simply won’t be able to look away.
