The Sound of Magic Ending Explained: What Happens to Ji Chang-wook’s Ri Eul?

On May 6, Netflix dropped a magical fantasy Kdrama titled, The Sound of Magic. The Korean series stars Ji Chang-wook as Ri Eul, Choi Sung-eun as Yoon Ah-yi, Nam Da-reum as young Lee Eul, Hwang In-youp as Na Il-deung, and Kim Bo-yoon as Kim So-hee. In 6 episodes, we realise the show is not just any magical series. There’s drama, suspense and murder.

In the last 2 episodes, Netflix’s The Sound of Magic takes a serious turn as Ri Eul becomes a suspect in various crimes. The cops accuse him of being the culprit responsible for the disappearance of one of Ah-yi’s schoolmates. He’s also accused of attacking an older woman. Ri Eul is accused of these allegations because of CCTV footage that shows a man wearing clothes like him attacking an older woman.

The accusations against Ri Eul leave the audience and Ah-yi doubting him when Ah-yi’s store manager returns. The store manager informs the cops how Ri Eul pushed him, and he fell under the bridge. We all believed that Ri Eul used a magical spell to make the store manager disappear until the revelation. However, Ri Eul keeps saying that he is innocent.

Who is the real culprit?

Later, at the police station, the cops receive another CCTV footage. The recording reveals that the store manager killed the missing girl and attacked the older woman. He purposely dressed as Ri Eul so that the cops suspect him. Ah-yi also reports to the cops about how the store manager tried to assault her sexually. That’s why Ri Eul pushed him off the railing.

At the end of the episode, we meet a grown-up Ah-yi. She’s happy and optimistic about life. Ah-yi is now a magician and performs tricks for students. The makers didn’t bring back Ri Eul after he disappeared. It proves that the magic was indeed real. It was magic that saved Ri Eul when he was suicidal in the past. Yet again, magic saved him from the false accusations and arrest.
