The Rising Of The Shield Hero Season 2 Episode 1 Review: A New Roar

Naofumi, our beloved Shield hero, is back in The Rising Of The Shield Hero Season 2 Episode 1, and back with him is one of the most exciting isekais to come out in the past few years. Let’s see where this new journey heads in this review!

The Rising Of The Shield Hero Season 2 Episode 1 Overview

The Rising Of The Shield Hero Season 2 Episode 1 Title

Naofumi The Rising Of The Shield Hero Season 2 Episode 1

If you liked Season 1 of this show, rejoice because Shield Hero Season 2 brings everything that the first one did and nothing else. All of our favourite characters are back, doing exactly what they are known to do best. The characters we didn’t like are just as hateful and useless, with no intention of improving anytime soon. As a viewer, you knew exactly what you were going to get when you put this episode on to watch, and this episode didn’t disappoint you one way or the other.

This season intends to focus more on Rishia and her relationship with Itsuki, the Bow Hero. She has a pretty clear and cut path ahead of her, growing stronger with the help of Naofumi and ending up showing up Itsuki in some manner. Raphtalia and Filo were there as well, concerned over her well being and being just as nice and passionate about everything as they always have. It felt great having them back on our screens, and we’ll have more time to talk about their relationship with Naofumi and growth as characters, provided we see any in this season.

Naofumi has been an exceptionally well-written character from the start, and he’s a major reason for the show’s quality and success. His struggles and successes have connected deeply with the hearts of many. As we are reintroduced to him in this episode, it felt like meeting an old friend again. However, while this will become more apparent as the series moves on, there isn’t much interesting left for our old friend to do in the show.

This episode saw our four cardinal heroes being faced with a new challenge, something that’s different from their current objective of fighting the waves. Naturally, you can assume what the reactions of each of the heroes were already, and Naturally, Haime was left to do everything by himself. This has been a problem with the series from the start. No one apart from Hajime’s party is even the tiniest bit competent in any manner. Now that the revenge plotline is pretty much done and dusted, this is going to be more problematic than ever.

The production in Shield Hero Season 2 Episode 1 was good, but there isn’t much else to say about it. The animation was highly competent, and the characters look just as vibrant as ever. This OST is different but sounds just as timely and generic. Watching this episode felt like a blast from the past, as in every one of us was transported back to 2019 and was revisiting the show for the first time. While that is great and exactly what people expected from the show, it also means that the show hasn’t improved anything initially wrong with it. Only time will tell if the show has gotten any worse, but it certainly is not better.

Verdict

The Rising Of The Shield Hero Season 2 Episode 1 was entertaining and featured everything we have come to love from the series so far. However, how long can the show carry on with the same formula? I guess these next episodes will tell us more.

  1. I think the first episode did a pretty good job since it wasn’t a complete flop. Also I just finished watching the second episode its getting a little bit more interesting and I’m pretty sure it become a total banger once they fight the spirit tortoise. so for me its
    so far so good.

    • The show has lost a bit of its charm for me, especially since the revenge plot ended without much fanfare. One can only hope the writer found some other interesting place to take the story.
