The Playlist: Everything to Know About the Swedish Spotify Origin Story

Set to release next week, Netflix’s Swedish limited series The Playlist will feature 6 episodes, diving headfirst into the rising reality of the giant music platform Spotify, that’s helped endless artists realize their potential. In a world that’s all about money and was once overtaken by piracy, Spotify was the only startup that surfaced with a free music streaming platform for all on the globe.

The biopic series has been created by Christian Spurrier, with companies like Banijay Group and Yellow Bird involved in its production. Filming for the same began in Stockholm, Sweden in 2021, and the final result is ready to be binged upon. Read on to find out all that you need to know about the upcoming series.

Edvin Endre plays the co-founder and CEO of Spotify. Gizem Erdogan will be helming the role of Petra Hansson, Christian Hillborg plays Martin Lorentzon and Ulf Stenberg plays Pet Sundin, leading the series. Some recurring roles will be played by Severija Janusauskaite, Joel Lützow, Ella Rappich, and more.

The Playlist Plot/Synopsis

The series introduces the birth story of the music streaming platform Spotify. First spoken of in 2019, the show speaks greatly of “a local story” that took on a giant shape and expanded to the global territory. The digital world we now live in has transformed the map of our lives, just like it did for the grand endeavor in question, which eventually changed the vision of music for everyone, especially for all the aspiring artists who found their standing with the help of the software.

It goes on to prove that every dream has a surpassing potential if had the chance and grounding. Based on the book Spotify Untold or Spotify Play subtitled How CEO and Founder Daniel Ek Beat Apple, Google, and Amazon in the Race for Audio Dominance, written by Sven Carlsson and Jonas Leijonhufvud, the series delves into how the founder had to pace himself through every financial struggle and other setbacks to let his small co-founding startup see the light of the day.
