Hulu’s range of psychological thrillers is strong and adding itself to the grand is The Patient. A limited series created by Joel Fields and Joe Weisberg for FX on Hulu, much like how Under the Banner of Heaven. The creators serve as the executive producers of the series along with Steve Carell, Caroline Moore, Victor Hsu and Chris Long.
The Patient is produced by Joel Fields Productions, Flim Flam and FXP. The production location for the series is Los Angeles. Ahead of the release of the title, let us look at some key details concerning the series.
The Patient Plot/Synopsis
The trailer description for the upcoming show reads: “A psychological thriller about a therapist who is held prisoner by patient Sam Fortner who reveals himself to be a serial killer. With time running out, Alan fights desperately to stop Sam before Alan becomes complicit in Sam’s murders or worse – becomes a target himself.”

In the trailer for the latest release, we see Steve Carell’s character work as a therapist who is himself suffering from trauma after losing his wife. He encounters a new patient (Domhnall Gleeson), who initially starts coming in for anger issues because he is not content. But, through the course of the trailer, we see how the new patient’s obsession with killing people forces him to capture his therapist to seek help.
The Patient Cast
The main cast features Carell as Alan Strauss, a therapist and Gleeson as Sam Fortner, a serial killer and the new patient of our therapist in question. Actors Linda Emond plays Candace Fortner along with Laura Niemi as Beth Strauss, Andrew Leeds as Ezra Strauss and David Alan Grier as Charlie Addison. Alex Rich is also part of the cast.
The Patient Release Date, Trailer and More
The show is scheduled to arrive on Hulu on August 30, 2022. It will premiere on the platform with two episodes. Following the release of the pilot, the other episodes will get a weekly release with one episode arriving every week on Tuesday. The total number of episodes is ten. The first two episodes are directed by Chris Long and the next three will see Kevin Brady serving as the director.
