The Little Mermaid Teaser has been released by Walt Disney Studios which premiered at the D23 Expo 2022 in the Anaheim Convention Center. It is a live-action reimagining of the studio’s Oscar-winning animated musical classic film of the same name, which is loosely based on Hans Christian Andersen’s tale of the same name. It is slated to be released next year.
It is directed by Rob Marshall from a screenplay written by David Magee from a story by Magee, Marshall and John DeLuca. The Little Mermaid is the beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure.
The youngest of King Triton’s daughters and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea, and while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land, but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy.

The film stars singer and actress Halle Bailey (from grown-ish) as Ariel, Tony Award winner Daveed Diggs as the voice of Sebastian, Jacob Tremblay as the voice of Flounder, Awkwafina as the voice of Scuttle, Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, Art Malik as Sir Grimsby, Noma Dumezweni as Queen Selina, with Oscar winner Javier Bardem as King Triton and Melissa McCarthy as Ursula.
The music score is by Alan Menken, the lyrics are by Howard Ashman and the new lyrics are by Lin-Manuel Miranda. The released teaser trailer shows visually pleasing and beautiful underwater visuals which give serene vibes, in which a mermaid swims through the reefs and obscure spaces.
Until the mermaid is revealed, looking upwards and singing that she wishes, she could be a part of that outside world. The song ‘Part of Your World‘ is sung by Halle Bailey herself, which is originally sung in the 1989 animated film by Jodi Benson. Bailey’s voice makes the song sound soothing while also expressing the feeling of longing, within the few lines.
