The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 7 Recap
After the events of episode 5, we jump to Jesse helping Dina with her wound after the face-off with the Seraphites and the WLF. Ellie rushes in eventually to check up on her friends and fills Dina in on everything that she learnt on her solo expedition, and afterwards opens up about her past and why Abby murdered Joel. Dina is left shocked at the revelation and simply tells Ellie that they need to go home.
The next morning, Ellie and Jesse leave Dina at the theatre and go back to meet up with Tommy. Jesse asks Ellie whether Dina is pregnant, and is left overwhelmed when she lets it slip. Overcome with emotions, he tries to rush through the process of finding Tommy so that they can get out of Seattle as fast as possible. On the way, they witness WLF soldiers murdering a Seraphite. Ellie tries to intervene, but Jesse stops her, realising that the two of them are no match against their six.

Elsewhere, Isaac Dixon and Elise Park share hushed words about Abby’s whereabouts, noting that if they die that night, they will need someone to lead the WLF. Meanwhile, Jesse and Ellie talk about her relationship with Dina and his feelings for someone else. In the middle of that conversation, they hear commotion over the radio about a sniper, and Jesse immediately realises that it must be Tommy. Jesse plans to meet up with Tommy and help him get out, while Ellie realises where Abby might be and jumps to plan her way there. They have a fight about their different plans, and Jesse eventually leaves her to her own devices while he tries to save Tommy.
That night, as thunder rumbles and rain pours down, Ellie witnesses a huge army of WLF soldiers going somewhere on their boats. She eventually finds on for herself and makes her way to the aquarium in rather turbulent waters and is eventually overthrown by a huge wave. When she washes up on shore, she is caught by Seraphites, who take her to be executed. She is thankfully saved when the Seraphites learn that their village is under fire, giving her the time to run off on her quest.

At the aquarium, Ellie runs into Owen and Mel and asks them about Abby’s location. Owen tries to shoot Ellie, resulting in her shooting them first. Owen dies immediately, and the bullet grazes Mel’s throat, cutting her artery. She reveals that she’s heavily pregnant and asks Ellie to get her baby out. Unfortunately, she dies before she can tell her what to do, and she isn’t able to save the baby, leaving her traumatised. Tommy and Jesse eventually arrive to get her out of there.
Back at the theatre, Ellie decides to be okay with letting Abby live after everything, and she makes up with Jesse as well. However, they then hear a commotion outside, and as they rush out of the room, Jesse is immediately shot dead. Ellie finally comes face to face with Abby, who is here to hunt down the people who killed her friends and is incensed to find Ellie in front of her, whose life she spared a few days ago. She tells her that she is the one who killed Mel and Owen, and Abby shoots her before anything else is said.

The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 7 Review

I am very confused about this season ending. Although I enjoyed the episode as a whole because it has enough twists and turns to leave viewers on edge, I found the final moments to be rather lacklustre and even a bit confusing. Nothing truly happens if you really think about it, and since there’s hardly anything at stake for now, I am left to wonder whether this is truly a cliffhanger. I don’t feel like I am hanging off a cliff.
More annoying, however, is the fact that we have to wait forever for the next season to get to know something more. The season had some great moments, especially in episode 6, which was a tearjerker. However, the ending is the weak link.
