The Last Night at Tremore Beach Ending Explained

The story starts with Alex moving to Tremore Beach to get a fresh start. Although unsure about what to do with his life at the moment, everything comes to a head when one night he gets struck by lightning. When he wakes up, he starts to get increasingly violent visions surrounding the death of his neighbours.

As he desperately tries to help them but is unable to convince anyone of what’s to come, his visions get stronger. He sees fragmented but more detailed things every time he sees something. In the midst of this, his two children also come to visit him, which complicates things further. After a particularly shocking and detailed vision leaves both Judy and his kids scared, he decides to go see a psychiatrist to get to the bottom of these odd phenomena.

What happened to Esterlla?

In the past, Alex’s mother was a very dominating woman who had the gift to see visions of the future. Although those around her did not believe her, she continued to believe and lean on these visions, guiding Alex to follow her dreams and not giving him a chance to live his life. With deep-seated resentment for his mother at not being able to have a normal childhood, having been forced to practice the piano since a young child, he decides to rebel when he gets a chance to win a scholarship to a prestigious school, letting his then-girlfriend Estrella win it instead.

This pushes his mother over the edge and, in order to make her vision come true, she decides to murder Estrella, staging the event as if it were an accident. Devastated by the incident, Alex ends up getting the scholarship, leaving his mother pleased. Years later, his father reveals this information to him, leaving him devastated.

Does Alex suffer from a mental illness or is he able to have visions of the future?

Although most people think that Alex suffers from a mental illness and is delusional, he has a gift of seeing the future which was triggered by the lightning strike. Although he is unable to see the entire incident in one go, he sees bits and pieces that he has to then string together in order to make sense of what’s going on. Towards the end of the runtime, he is able to see the entire truth of the devastating incident that threatens to kill his entire family by concentrating on it and facing it instead of running away, thereby being able to face the truth.

What was the true vision that Alex saw?

In his vision that is revealed in episode 8, Alex sees that Leo is actually Souza and the men who supposedly came to kill them were officers of the Interpol. Since he didn’t see the entire vision previously, he had a reverse idea of the incident. In his vision, Leo fools them into believing that he is dead, killing the officers and keeping Alex hostage before killing Paula, his kids and Judy. However, in the end, he is able to stop that from happening when he finally wakes up in the hospital after the lightning strike incident and decides to take matters into his own hands.

Who are Maria and Leo?

Trying to keep the two alive, Alex found out that Leo kept guns in his house and that he had shady people coming to meet them. However, having caught him breaking in, Leo frustratedly tells him that a dangerous criminal called Souza has been after them because Maria was once a drug mule for him who turned state’s witness. They have been under witness protection and the shady people were actually from Interpol who were checking in with them.

Unfortunately, it later turns out that Leo was Souza and that Interpol were after him. Maria didn’t know anything about him.

In the end, Alex decides to pack up his life in Tremore Beach and move back to London to be close to his kids. However, before that, he pays Leo and Maria a visit, who are not at their home. He gets rid of his guns and ammunition in the house and then bids them goodbye at the beach. Although they are surprised, they share a warm goodbye. Alex then tells Interpol about their whereabouts and they are promptly arrested soon after.

On the other hand, he plans to take his kids to give Paula a break and ends up making amends with her by apologising to her. He tells her that he will go to Amsterdam to meet all of them and wishes her happiness. Next, he asks Judy to join him in Amsterdam but she remains sceptical and unsure, having not had the experience that Alex has had through his visions. However, he assures her that he knows everything about her, including her assault, and that both of them need to stop living in fear. He also mentions that he is choosing to live with her, regardless of where she chooses to live. Although shocked, Judy seems to be accepting of his offer.

In the last scene, Alex seems to have made his peace with his visions and his mother, having embraced this part of his life instead of being defiant by destroying everything good.

  1. a brilliant series. In the beginning, the story telling seems to be a bit slow, but after having watched the first part, I definitely wanted to see the second episode and the series captured me more and more.
The story has many layers, is intelligently written and thrilling until the end. There are enough beautiful parts in the story as well. In a way, it is refreshing to watch European series. In my opinion, they are not repetitive and many times a lot of actors play their parts superbly.
Don’t watch it in English, but in the language it was made (Spanish) and use English subtitles, unless your Spanish is fluent of course. The English dubbing, with all respect for all people who participated in that, is just not of the same level as the original. I think that goes for all series. The original voices always fit more to the actors than dubbing. Anyway, watch it! It is surprising that the IMDB rating is not very high, but that is sadly most of the times with non-American series.
